Holy Handbags! Diane Kruger To Design Her Own Bag With Jason Wu - What Will It Look Like?
There are few A-list ladies featured on the world’s best-dressed lists who haven’t entered the realm of design at some point. Victoria Beckham, Alexa Chung, Olivia Palermo, Rihanna, Kate Bosworth… All have offered us their vision at different stages and at every price point. However, until now, the elegant stylings of Diane Kruger have been kept in her closet and her closet alone.
For this debut fashion foray the actress has decided to stay focused on just one handbag and instead of going it alone, she’ll be collaborating with one of her industry pals: Jason Wu. The bag shall be called – drum roll, please – the Diane.
Kruger revealed her plans to US Elle just before embarking on a campaign shoot with Chanel - which says a lot about the girl in the first place. She’s a triumphant kind of modern classicist – the kind of reliably well turned-out lady who knows that a Breton can be just as effective as a Calvin Klein ballgown. Not once has DK disappointed on the red carpet, and even her scruffiest downtime L.A. days still show an innate ability for doing casual. Her denim is always on-trend but never slavish, her shoes low-heeled, her tees on the right side of sloppy and her handbags? Well, this is one arm candy collection that has kept Team Grazia alert over the years.
Whether drooling over an extensive Chanel pick'n'mix or her adventures into niche territory with Jerome Dreyfuss or Barbara Bui, Diane will even flourish her gym kit with something special. Hefty her chic handbag armoury may be, but she’s not adverse to doing something different either: Diane has been known to ditch traditional baggage altogether in favour of something thematic like a wicker basket in Cannes (true story, Google: 2010 Diane Kruger Chanel basket and you’ll see)
So what will the ‘Diane’ be like? We imagine a hint of Wu’s uptown style and most probably a day bag with clean lines, minimal detailing and maximum versatility. Maybe there will be an inner pouch that doubles up as an evening clutch bag – we know DK is a fan of a fancy after-dark pochette, too. Watch this space and your wallets…
