Diesel S/S 2023 Milan | the Fashion Spot

Diesel S/S 2023 Milan

I will give him that: His arrival at Diesel happened at exactly the right time when all the pseudo-cool kids' appetite for late 90ies/early 2000's fashion peaked. Diesel seemed for many years the most passé brand imaginable, the only imagineable way for it to come back being that it's Eurotrash heritage be fully embraced. He did that here and in his previous collections, so it's no surprise all these kids who were toddlers or not even born when the brand was first 'big' are jumping at it now.

Not that any of that really mattered about my personal liking for this collection, really, but I'm also too old and not feeling any nostalgic for this aesthetic.

70 looks is a lot. Particularly when most of them are denim. There are some interesting treatments, like the protruding frays in look 28 and the degrade "denim" jersey to what looks like nylon mesh but might be flocked or devoréd. The leather co-ord that looks like it's self-combusted is pretty cool as a show look, despite being very gimmicky.

But a lot of this should have been kept for the sales floor. It's too repetitive on it's own and also compared to previous collections, so it's starting to stagnate. In general, I am worried that the shift from the current favourite Y2K look might be towards an indie-sleeze redux, which can honestly have acid poured onto itself. With such a strong reference (and reliance) to an aesthetic, there's very little wiggle room so I wonder where else Glenn is going to go with Diesel in later collections.

I didn't have the patience to go through this whole show, got bored. so dont think its fair for me to pass any judgments. what did y'all think??

Britney Spears circa 2001-04 (but with some fabric research here and there).
