Mark Vanderloo back in DNKY
DKNY Suits Up
BY JEAN SCHEIDNES
NEW YORK — Donna Karan International is in the final stages of negotiating a license with Peerless Clothing for DKNY tailored clothing, the latest in a string of new partnerships working toward a major, multi-category extension of DKNY across the better zone of department stores this fall.
The company tested the waters this spring with a new line of DKNY dress shirts and ties made by Phillips-Van Heusen. Come fall, clothing by Peerless and sportswear, licensed to Liz Claiborne, will significantly round out the offerings.
There is also a license for small leather goods brewing. And for at least the first season, outerwear will be created within the sportswear collection, rather than as a separate classification. Initially DKI had a term sheet with Collezione SA for outerwear, but decided not to proceed.
DKI has tapped Mark Vanderloo, the Dutch supermodel who appeared in some of the earliest DKNY ads, to be the face of the brand once again. He will star in a fall campaign to be targeted specifically at men, in a departure from the dual-gender and female-centric campaigns of the past several years.
