Maybe it's genetic, because both me and my dad have that same thing happen when we look at a very bright light (happens a lot in the morning after being in a dark room all night and then coming out into a really bright room). I wonder what causes this?

Well, anyways, you're not alone! :flower:

When I was little I had an milkallergy and puked all the time but then I grow out of it but now I think I might have it again.. I am allergic to a type of cheese and kiwi.

^ When I was a little kid and I drunk straight cows milk I'd throw up soooooo soo much:shock:

so my mum put me on soya milk..and now I think I've gotten over it but I still drink soya milk:lol:

leblue15 and TheKiwi my brother has the sneezing thing too!!:woot:

Yeah that always happens to me too !!!
Im also taking a photography class and everytime I go out of the dark/red room (is that the name?) to see the pictures I sneeze like 3 times !! ^_^

^ I'm sensitive to light (have to wear sunglasses unless it's darkB)), am lactose intolerant and was (still am a little) alergic to egg whites :yuk:.

^Omygoodness! That's different! I'm allergic to whole eggs anyhow...but its better because when I was little it was really bad but its getting better now.

^ yeah I was really allergic to egg whites as a baby then I think as you're exposed to the allergen it becomes less of an extreme reaction. A few years back I did a cleanse for three weeks. A little while after I had finished I ate a bagel and went into anaphilactic (sp?) shock. I must have been the egg white glaze on it we decided. Now thou I'm ok again ....

^That's good to know! Well, I can't eat pavlova still it makes me go swollen like crazy!

Ancient thread, but who cares. :innocent:

About a year ago I discovered I'm lactose intolerant, probably caused by an infection. My diet has been lactose-free since that moment, I must say that it's quite doable but I still miss some food (well, mainly cheese. Nothing can replace cheese :ninja:).

I wondered if there are more people that are lactose-intolerant. And what kinds of food do you miss?
Or have you found decent substitutes? Any tips/recommendations? :flower:

^ I thought cheese was supposed to be low in lactose (aged cheese that is)? What about something like 7-year Gouda (which is super fabulous)?

I find that dairy is more difficult for me to digest as I get older. I had already cut out milk for other reasons, and now I no longer buy ricotta (which is, of course, concentrated milk). A little is fine, like at a restaurant, but eating it day after day disagrees with me.

@Fewormany: I don't know if I'm lactose intolerant, but since coming to France I've found that their oh-so-delicious dairy products started to give me tummy aches, and my doctor and others have also told me it's not good for the mucous membrane/respiratory system/colds. Now I'm no longer even attracted to most milks and cheeses. I can't even think about skimmed milk, it's the worst. I'm like Ta-ta, I eat occasionally, esp. parmigiano is a must for pasta.

But I've found a great solution: CHÈVRE! Goat cheese has always been my favorite anyway, so I eat fresh goat cheese or yogurt every day for breakfast and snacks. I find sheep cheese is okay too. (Fewormany, when I was vegan I used to eat vegan cheese, which was actually quite good, have you tried those?)

I also still eat rich golden fabulous organic French farmer's butter regularly (I mean come on!) because it has far less lactose than milk or cheese and we only eat it in small amounts to begin with, so I find I'm fine with it. (I do allow myself a creamy dessert or fantastic mozzarella di buffala very occasionally though, and it's oh so worth it  )

Re. allergies, a month ago I made myself a hot-and-sour soup with snap peas, and my lips swelled up like Angelina Jolie's...it was funny but scary to think what if that happened internally. It was either the snap peas or the cayenne pepper or the chicken stock I used...probably the peas, since they've always made my mouth a little irritated. Also, melons have always made my throat raspy. No idea why. Just those two things.
