i'm going to doha soon for some vacations and visit my friend overthere ...
so basically i wanted to have informations about shopping in Doha, as my friend is not really into shopping and shops ... at all !

I know there's a Maria Luisa shop in Doha, the site said they only carry womenswear ... BUT Rick Owens site said they have some menswear carried in Maria Luisa's Doha shop.
So is Maria Luisa only carrying womenswear ... or not ?
the guy at Maria Luisa only replied to my email "yes we have a new shop in Doha" .... honey, i asked about menswear ... not if you have a shop in Doha ....

Anyway, I wanted to have more informations about shopping in Doha. what are the good shops ? cheap or chic. anything, i'll take it. what's in the malls ? etc.
a woman my friend knows said a lot of women go to Dubaï to shop for high fashion (she meant Hermès ....)
Hermès isn't it time to land to Doha ?! From my friend's opinion .... it is ! the foreigners wives get easily bored ..... :innocent:

maybe when i'll come back in jan. from my vacations i could add some stuff if nobody made this thread live a lil' ..... ^_^

i'm in doha right now i haven't done a lot of shops except the waqif souk, city center in west bay ... not great shops but i'm just next to it and Villagio it's a mall with a venetian river inside and every gallery inside the mall has a sort of neo-classic facades ....
in Villagio there are a lot of luxury brands in the back of it like Marni, Marc Jacobs, LV, Fendi, D&G and Dolce&Gabanna, Harry Winston, Tiffany's, Bonpoint (french kids brand) etc. Tom Ford, Valentino, Gucci and Celine will open soon (i don't know when .....)
Most of the shops are full of bags, shoes and access. as the typical outfits are the same for men and women i think the only way to get distinguish from others are bags and access. it seems women and girls are crazy about bags ...

In France we don't know malls so it's a bit weird for me .... there are junk zones (every fast foods in the same place) and kids zone in every mall i "visited" ....

I still have to go the Pearl and some other shops ....

I've gone to a tailor to get a dishdasha (? .... the men typical outfit) in black .... amazing outfit !!! i love it seriously it seems so confortable. i'll have it in 5 days ... and it's so not expensive (about 50euros)

hi BR there is a cool shop in al-Fardan towers just behind the city centre mall called ÁIDA' they carry Dior homme , Balenciaga, Stella McArtheny, Kris Van Asch, & more & some niche perfumes from Deptique, CdG, the different company & more....
& they have sale at the moment & excuse my spelling

& there is villa moda @ the ritz carlton hotel , they carry Gucci Prada & more...

we went to Aida twice this week ........
the people are so nice and some of them speak french ....
it's a service à la française with the warmness of oriental people .... it's really good atmosphere imo ....
they also carry Margiela, Les Hommes, Armani, Galliano, Surface2Air ... for men ...
the VIP room (only for ladies ! ... but we had a personal visit there was nobody upstairs) is full of amazing gowns ... i was dying ...

i cannot wait to come back to Doha (i'm really sad to leave tomorrow) and go to the Pearl ... for people who like Cavalli (i think people love Cavalli here and you know the same bling-bling stuff) there's gonna be a huge shop in front of the little center island .... and it's full of shops ... there's Hermès right at your arrival in the Pearl ... YSL  ...
for the moment only 2-3 coffees are open ....

I hadn't go to Salam (it's near al fardan tower) yet ... maybe today btw something else ...

i heard there were sales in The Pearl.
What shop opened since january ?

well Br, here is the list:

Giorgio Armani
Emporio Armani
Hermes
A McQueen
S McCartney
Richmond
Galliano
Chloe
Ferre
Cavali
Balenciag
Sonia Rykiel
G Zanotti
Bluemarine
& Dipytique perfumes

there is new shop called ZAI which i prefer because they have Lanvin & the prices went down to 80% they have also Philip Lim, Costume National, Neil Barret , Mathew Williamson, Nina Ricci & more........

well there are many shopping options here in town.

^ah !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lanvin ?!!!!!!!!!!!? Cannot wait to come !

YSL hasn't opened yet ?
and in Villiagio did Tom Ford open ?

been to Zai, honsetly their prices are rocket high...they bring very vulgar collection...no wonder they went 80% off...and not to mention natives travel alot therefore its cheaper to buy overseas when everything is readily avaliable, cheaper, better customer service...i hated the customer services at zai and the other stores...they absolutely know nothing about fashion...and with the booming economy in the country, its not as easy to trick customers to buy an old two year old collection passing it to be new...there are magazines and people are much well aware of fashion...

european sales associates are super friendly, they dont shove the pieces in your face wanting to sell it for their own good to get comission...
they seriously need to educate the sales associate at dubai, doha and kuwait..maybe send to to sales associate school and teach them about customer relationship...

BerlinRocks..its a waste to shop in that area...ur in france!!! the land of fashion...u can shop ethnic goods in countrys but designer wear forget it...EU rocks....

Define Vulgar?

been to Zai, honsetly their prices are rocket high...they bring very vulgar collection.......

I don't think that Alber Elbaz collections for LANVIN are vulgar?
niether Philip Lim, Olivier Theyskens for Nina Ricci , Mathew Williamson, Costume National, Maison Martin Margela, Paul Smith, Barbara Bui, Alexander Dell Aqua, Niel Barrett, Leonard, Zilli, ...., I wonder what is vulgar about them???!!! & they are freshly hot from the runway to the shelves of Zai?

Unless you're standard is Chanel Haute Coture? then it is another story???

I travel frequently to Eroupe & the US & i see no difference in the price, if not cheaper ??? at least here you can get 80% off!

the service there was decent & the SA carried all my shopping bags out to my Porsche, you can't get a perfect service unless your in Tokyo.
& european sales associates don't get super friendly only if they want to sleep with you?

I'm not amused of your tone of sarcasim:smile: but yes to answer your answer my standards are Chanel Coture

They are not "Hot" as you say from the runways to the shelves of zai
I've been to zai way too many times and was very disappointed one too may times.

The buying manager obviously is Lebanese and doesnt cater for the overall taste of the public. The SA know nothing other than to sweet talk to you to an item that they conceal as 'brand new' or that it looks good on you when in reality it looks bad...
I went into to try the so called "hot out the runways" Marchessa dress, which btw was on sale in the US and online it was WAY MUCH CHEAPER ( without the sale)..
Funny, the SA insisted it was a new collection when it was a summer 2008 and we were already in Dec 2009.

You may travel frequently to Europe but I am based here in Europe, and all i hear and see people complaining about Zai.

i question why the 80% sales off then:rolleyes:

Thankfully the new boutiques in the Pearl are of much higher standard in terms of knowlegde and sales assistance.

i don't see the relation between the buying manager's nationality and composing a "vulgar" over priced collection?
just like i dont see the relation between fine taste and kim kardashian, the epitome of Vulgarism?

I'm sure you wouldnt be able to see the relation. You would need to have lived in that region for a while to understand what I am talking about. From an outsider point of view you wouldnt understand the dynamics.

well if you want to compare fine taste and kim kardashain trashy style days, then let me put it this way its kim kardashian vulgar style, if that would ease it to you.

You honsetly need to be there to understand it, otherwise you wont.

But now that the market there is triggered towards opening the actual stores such as balenciaga, cavallii etc etc...there is much more price control and selection control than multibrand stores (such as the likes of vila moda and zai) and Aida is another multibrand store and is doing pretty well though they have a nice collection their buyer is evidently french:smile:

Aida store ( the mother company are the same owners of balenciaga, Gissuepe Zanotti, and many other stand alone stores that have just opened in the pearl) Aida store, the mother company have been in the fashion business for a long time, they were the first to open Mango and Zara , Pull and Bear etc...they know what the clients are looking for , their prices are farily close to whats selling overseas and they have a great selection of clothes..when you enter the store you get captured in a fashionable ambience...even the sales associates actually know what they are talking about!

Anyway its my personal opnion about zai and i know many other people share the same opinion. Thankfully new stores are opening and people do recognize and make choices that suit them.

i've been to ZAI ....

i cannot really give an opinion bcause when i went there, a lot of stuff were gone bcause of crazy sales ... so i can't tell really about their shopping.
i bought a Joseph Homme jacket for only 80euros .... which is correct, imo ...
the shop is all brand new so i think they still need to organize ... but it's very big and I thought the sale service was good (though i still prefer my people at Aida) ...

my only complain is how they displayed the Maria Luisa section ......... which imo is not very Maria Luisa spirit (I thought I was in Fiorrucci wolrd) .... I didn't really check the women section .... So i can't say about it really ....

another bad point : it's really far from where I am (in West Bay, near W Hotel)

The Pearl hasn't opened all their shops yet and the day I went there was soooooo hot (people who've been there can understand how humid it can be) that I spent all my time waiting for my driver drinking orange juice, reading and chatting with the waiter .... AND sweating .....

anyway, i advice to go there by 6-7pm but I don't know the timing of shops closing.

to jump on what dulcisima told, a guy - i can't remember where - told me that some qatari shops got a season late ... but i'm sorry everything i saw was current season ... and i saw it back in Dubai days after .... so NO Doha gets everything on time ....

a note for people in charge of Tom Ford's shop (in Villiagio) - if they read TFS ....
Tom is coming to Dubai on Nov. to visit his Dubail Mall's shop, so I really suggest you to open your shop in Nov. and invit him to come !! That would be an idea ........ non ?
Coz when will it be open ? The cardboards are there for a long time now ....
But maybe that's the idea .......

I appreciate your input, your talking from a personal experince and so am I. I travel alot back and forth to Europe ( infact i spend more time in EU)and the region, the middle east region gets the collection later than Europe correct, some collections get on time and others get way later. I am talking about my personal experince when I went to purchase a Marchesa dress that was a Summer Collection and was already in sale in the US , i go in Zai and they claim its a "new collection"...Zac Posen's collection was untouched for the longest time, i remember the red frame bag which was a big IT for the season two years ago and sold out in netaporter was laying on Zai's shelves for the longest time ever, and even when it was sale time they only took a "generous" 15% of claiming its still new, its not suprising that no one really shops until they get overstocked with items that no one buys, because people have better, faster ,cheaper and much more knowlegdable alternatives.
Take netaporter for example, you email their fashion advisors and within the 24 hours you a response to all your inquries with no doubts, a dress doesnt fit you , you can return it no issues, you could also get a refund on designer items provided that tags are still on it and its within 7 or 14 days of purchases...these policies do not exist in the region shopping at all...My friend purchased a Temperly london dress for around 10 US dollars from Zai it was a bit big on her and they offered to alter to her size, they took the measurements , everything.....she went in to pick it up...and try it on...the dress was a long gown...needless to say they made it soo short that even with no shoes ..the dress falls above her ankles...and what was the SA response "oh it looks good on you, its so in now" please! what a line!! she asked them to get her another one as they did not alter to as she has requested...they had nothing left and refused to give her a refund. If that happens in Europe which i assure you it never does, you get compensated, they try to please their customers not go after their money!

Aida is evidently the best so far hands down, the prices , the services, the collection etc..

The Pearl isnt a summer shopping location, its best i heard during winter and early spring season and their prices almost matches Europe prices, ofcourse I am not denying that rental prices are rocket high, but there should be a match.

Another thing , AlSalam is probably takes the worst prize in terms of price, collection etc...i am not slamming Zain , but i think it should be much much much better than that.

I also heard of a new mall opening up at the West Bay area next to the pearl so that sounds pretty promising, they will be carrying Aramani Jeans, Diesel, Kenneth Cole, tommy hilfiger, CK, Zara, H&M, pull amd Bear etc...and the upper level will have luxury designers, chanel, hermes etro etc...so that sounds promising...

^i've heard about this mall .... i think ....

i heard it will be a 8km long mall .....
insane !!!!

There is a small mall called "Al Mana'a Towers". Its worth a visit I think, its quite small there is a lovely chocolate shop I forgot what its called but its european chocolate. I remember there is also a boutique called " The Closet" they sell Marchesa dresses and a few other brands, its a tiny shop and they stock a couple of pieces of each item at most. You will find BHS, a furniture store and The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf there.

Nobody mentioned there's a Versace boutique here in Doha

hello guys.
where can we find foreign fashion magazines in Doha ? Is there a spot ?

I'm asking, since I'm coming soon and I just wanna know if I have to buy all the seasonal magazines in Paris (iD, Pop, Love, Another Mag etc.) before ...

None of the ones you mentioned are available here, you're lucky if you find the usual ELLEs, Vogues and Marie Claires. You can find these in Mega Mart, Jarir bookstore & Carrefour

^ok .... that's what i thought, but i was expecting some new secret shop open for fashion addicts ....
like a library ...

i'll have to check VCUQ Library ...
