Doo-ri FOR J. CREW:Brides could be walking down the aisle in a J. Crew wedding dress designed by Doo-ri Chungas soon as next year. Chung, the New York fashion designer and CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner who is being mentored by J. Crew chairman and chief executive officer Millard "Mickey" Drexler, will design for the Manhattan-based retailer a few wedding dresses and other items, as reported by WWD in January. But the date hadn't been set. A J. Crew spokeswoman said Chung will design the dresses during her yearlong mentorship and J. Crew will begin selling them in 2008. This is the first designer collaboration J. Crew will undertake, joining a growing circle of retailers, including H&M, which marketed a $349 wedding gown created by Viktor & Rolf last year.

this is a most repectable partnership.
wish her all the best................

wow! i cannot WAIT to see these dresses. how exciting.

this beats a viktor&rolf for H&M wedding dress...absolutely.

I don't know how well this fits the images of Doo.Ri and J.Crew respectively even if I know the designs will be up to par.

yeah i dunno about that either. doo.ri seems to have different aesthetics to the image of a luxury basic driven J. Crew.

the two aesthetics do not seem really compatible at all- but only time will tell

But I bet it'll make for an intriguing fusion!

This is a perfect match. Doo Ri really has a knack for classic American clothes, perhaps she picked it up at Geoffrey Beene or when she designed at Banana Republic, but she's graceful, succint, and effective. I'm excited for what she'll make for J.Crew partly because I do love J.Crew and their quality does in fact reach the level were a talented designer can do something interesting with it. Their wedding dresses go up into the 4 digit area.

very, very interesting.

like someone mentioned, j. crew has the quality control behind them to have this result in something great.

since when did Jcrew have good quality control?

Personally I've never had a problem with their quality. As far as mass retailers go I think they're one of the best. The fabrics are pretty decent, the seams and stiches are good. They also offer higher priced pieces, specifically eveningwear, that I've never seen personally but I can imagine the quality is pretty good.

I mean, the quality just about matches the price.

hmmm. would have been cool if they let her design some real clothes, bridal is rather boring. but I guess she isn't really very J. Crew in theroy, so they best leave her to her own little collection. the only real problem I see with this is that J. Crew is not that big of a chain, or that affordable in comparison to H&M and Target, so I do not know that it will benefit her branding/marketing or even get her name out that much. ESPECIALLY if it is only brides who are into it. I hope they are paying her a lot....

I agree with mutterlein. I think this is a perfect fit. While i have no need for a wedding dress i think it's pretty smart to have her focus on just one area. When you let designers do ten different things it all seems to sort of fall apart in my opinion. doo. ri was just talking about focus within her aesthetic and whats she's producing. I don't think she's that concerned with getting her name out there but I think it will. I'm really really interested in this.

Yeah, I think Doo-Ri takes the minimalistic, elegent approach that is also taken by J. Crew, only in different ways. I love it.

Jcrew clearly needs a REAL designer to sell their "collection" - expensive but poorly designed and cut clothes. I'm not sure if Doo. Ri. is a big enough name to make the line for Jcrew.

Quality wise, me and DH stopped shopping at jcrew completely because we had a few sweaters that run three wears later and tshirt with extremely inconsistent sizing. Their cashmere claimed to be Italian cashmere but the quality is not as nice as, say, Ann Taylor's. People also received garments that were worn and then returned (gross).

I like Doo. Ri. very much but I'm not sure if jcrew is the right choice.

I think this is the case with a lot of chain stores. Some people find the quality to be great, others not so. I've had no problems with my jcrew items whatsoever and I find their fit to be really good. Same with Gap. I know a lot of people hate the way the clothes are cut there (caffeine i think you might be one of them!) but it's one of the few high street stores that fit me. So....just like with other designers, you can't win em all.
