Designer Doo-Ri Chung plans to launch a secondary, lower-priced line next year that will pick up on many of her signatures — the jersey, the draping and the feminine silhouettes — in fabrics more suitable for everyday. The line will not be labeled Doo.Ri, though the designer is still deciding on a name.

“I have been thinking about this for a really long time,” Chung said of the secondary line. She credited Stella Ishii, president of The News showroom, for encouraging her. The line will be carried by The News, and launch for fall distribution.

The line will feature leather jackets, stretch leather leggings, silk screened T-shirts and jersey dresses. Jersey dresses in the new line will wholesale from $170 to $200, jersey tops from $80 to $119, jersey outerwear from $200 to $325, and leather jackets for $475. By comparison, dresses in the main collection wholesale from $395 to $895, tops from $250 to $675, outerwear from $425 to $825 and knitwear from $275 to $825.

and the news is also responsible for bringing up a few key talents(like adrover, cianicolo and jurgi persoons) to the awareness of the fashion world over the last years,so they know exactly what they're talking about.

the collection sounds as if it will be really lovely and completely doo.ri's answer to more accessible clothes. she should do a great job because she's fantastic at simplicity.

LA LIGNE DOO-RI: When Doo-Ri Chung revealed she was launching a lower-priced collection last month, she knew what she wanted the line to be, but was still deciding on a name. In the end, she chose to call her new baby Under.Ligne. “The name was chosen for its literal play on words but also for the utilitarian and graphic qualities,” Chung said. The designer will fete the new collection with an event at Pure Space in the Starrett-Lehigh building.(wwd)

This is really great news. If there's one good thing coming out of this recession, it's that designers are exploring lower-end options for expanding their lines.

I agree but I think it can be a double edged sword. Just a two years back, Doo.Ri was talking about how the money she had acquired had given her the ability to play more with her line and really explore her ideas and she wasn't ready yet to even look at accessories. So to do a whole extra line? I agree with Scott her pieces will cross over nicely, but I've found her collections disappointing as of late. As long as what we get are great pieces and not just designers over extending themselves to keep afloat, then I'm fine with it.

DOO-RI Chung unveiled her new secondary collection, under.ligne, on Wednesday night to very happy crowd in New York City's Chelsea. Given the current economic crisis, reports that the CFDA winner was launching a lower-priced line - sorry, ligne - was welcome news indeed.
Chung did not disappoint fashion fans, offering up her famous draped dresses, scoop-back tops and sexy ankle-zip leggings in her signature jersey and leather (all in shades of ivory, grey and black, black, black).
"We're designing for urban people so black is going to be a staple in every collection I bring forward," said the diminutive designer after greeting American Vogue's senior market editor Meredith Melling Burke. "For every day dressing, I wear black."
As, apparently, did 90 per cent of the guests swirling around her sipping white wine and nibbling on Mediterranean meatballs. Taking in the collection overlooking the Hudson River and the New Jersey skyline seemed fitting, as that's where the designer was raised.Chung first started working on the line (which retails for $150 to $900, with most pieces in the $200 to $300 range) a year ago at the urging of her former showroom manager, who told her it was time to do a secondary line.
"At first, I was like, no, what are you talking about?" said Chung. "Then I started thinking about it and I was like, why the hell not? We had all these patterns from my very first collection that never really got produced, so we were able to re-fabricate it and slowly build this line. It was a very organic thing. And then this recession hit, so the timing just felt right. If I can take the styles that I've done in the past and make it affordable, that's great."
Like the scribbled print pattern that hung as a backdrop behind this cool, timely collection - and also appeared as a graphic on several of the tops - the writing would seem to be on the wall: Chung's got another hit on her hands. (vogue.co.uk)

DOO.RI'S NEW PRICE-CONSCIOUS COLLECTION

CFDA womenswear award winner Doo.Ri unveiled a lower-priced line (in stores fall 2009) at a special event last night. The collection, called Under.Ligne, includes 25 pieces of jersey and leather daywear, with dresses ranging from $395-475, tops under $275, and skirts and pants for $195-375. In the designer’s words: “The second line has always been something I have wanted to do…it allows me the freedom to reinterpret the designs I have done.” Lucky for us, that reinterpretation includes easier-to-swallow price tags. Here, our favorites from collection.
