Madewell : a new brand from J. Crew

update:

I bought two merino wool Vneck swtrs for DH and both got ripped on the arms within 3-4 wears. basically half of the sleeves came off from the shoulders. my husband has many sweaters including designers and bargains from the GAP, but it was the first time in both our lives to see sweaters with qualities like Jcrew's.

I complained to our friends and I surprisingly found that we were not alone.
I guess that Faust was correct: jcrew probably is not "madewell" afterall :innocent:
oh, and they charge $78 for a sweater like that. Never tell me they are not overpriced.

Sorry to hear that...
I've been wearing J Crew since high school, but have never had that kind of problem.

It looks super good and super simple. That's what I like. Malleability in my clothes so I can wear them with more than one thing.

I think its a great thing J.crew is doing...
guess i should make my way to century city to check out the merchandise.

madewell opened today in texas, anyone see it?

I went a long time ago ... I was really unimpressed ... totally nothing special. But don't ask me why I thought I would be able to find something here when I never can at J Crew

Not sure they've got anything that couldn't be found at J Crew ... I found it very very basic and boring ... J Crew usually has interesting details, patterns, etc. ... none of that at Madewell. I much prefer that even my basics not be boring, so not the place for me

I was in the Natick Collection today and was very impressed with the made well store. The dresses were pretty and simple, and the jeans looked great, i will definitely go back

More Americana clothing for boxy figures. Great...as if we need more.

I'm a size 4, narrow hips (not wide/boxy) and a bit curvaceous in the nether region...My butt pokes out of everything that JCrew makes and the hip area is always too wide and boxy. And those ridiculous A line skirts/dresses...arrrgh, great for a boxy figure, but not for the rest of us. I like how preppy and wholesome their items often are, but I wish they'd get a clue and design for another body-type.

I worked at madewell over the summer, it really is very different from J.Crew.

Both Stylistically and the way the clothes are made, i feel like they really were two separate endeavors. The Jeans are phenomenal, they're all i wear now and i stopped working there when i went off to school a few months ago.

i'm interested to hear more from anyone who has actually seen the stores or the collection....

i wasn't able to go on my appointment when they had the new york event...
but someone who went actually said she liked so much stuff that she went back again the next day to get more...

and this is a girl who wears dries and marni and margiela...
so that definitely grabbed my attention...

they have a website now...
and it says they are opening in NYC soon!....
...

^ It's possible she was seeing a better selection than I did?

I didn't try things on to see what the cuts were like as I didn't see anything that appealed to me enough to try on ...

I was also pretty impressed with the Natick Store... sure, Madewell isn't super fashionable, but it carries a ton of nice basics. I got some grey jeans there that are just perfect... they're getting heavy rotation in my wardrobe

i guess the store opening in nyc got pushed back, but they're doing a pop-up store for the holiday...
from wwd...

Madewell is coming to Manhattan sooner than expected with a temporary store opening Wednesday at 532 Broadway in SoHo.

It's a move to capitalize on holiday selling, in advance of Madewell's permanent, two-level, 2,650-square-foot location at 486 Broadway at Broome Street, also in SoHo, which has experienced some construction delays. It's now targeting a late January or February opening.

The 2,000-square-foot temporary location will remain open until the permanent Madewell store is ready for business.

I went to the store in Short Hills and thought it was absolute crap. Reminded me of Abercrombie, more than anything else.

I'd be curious to hear what your friend liked, softie....

^^i have no idea but that was a year ago...
so clearly it's not the same stuff anymore...

from what i saw on the website though...
i thought they had some really cute scarves in great colours...
and i liked the boots as well...
