same here

In Asia there's definite dress code. Here in Korea EVERYone professional wears a suit... its so boring. Women ALL wear high heels, but now the 'hip hop' style is here so theres that style as well. KInda on a tangent the Japanese street styles that get monitored here, there is a dress code there in its own way.

i think that's a very good question... :P

I really think dress codes are necessary, there would always be people who didn't look appropriate for the setting they were in-whether it be school or work, but some are just taken too far. I completely agree with school uniforms, though.

definitely, If dress codes were pushed in school for real, I wouldn't be walking around with a Carmen Miranda fruit headpiece at 10am

I don't know any dress codes apart from not walking around naked.

the only dress codes I respect are printed on party flyers
i feel you

in this age where you can wear a blazer with your evening midi length dress and go to the office, is there a need for dress code?
Also what are some of the dress codes that you know of and what they mean?I plan to write an article abt it.
eg. smart casual, black tie... do such things make sense?

I have very little respect for dress codes. That's why I have to eat lunch in the Principal's office.

I agree with dress codes. But not my previous school's. (Thank gosh, I'm moving on up...!!!) They didn't permit backless shoes. Naturally, I was in the office every day this spring with my heels.. and a few times over the winter for pointy mules...

Well I don't like dress codes cuz sometimes they are plain stupid like citing me for a off shoulder top without a top under with a 2 inch strap when there was a gal whos skirt was SO short that the pockets were sticking out of the bottom.

In some places I think there should be some type of GUIDELINE that'll tell you whats more appropriate for the place.

I don't really pay attention to dress code much. I do what I please at school.

i think dress codes are a must at certain places and occasions because some people don't have a clue....most people are so dumb when it comes to looking appropriate

idisagree with them completely, of coars you ahve to be respectful, but i don't think any one should be pushing there ideas on you.

Dress codes are certainly important sometimes. I'm thinking job interviews, weddings, formal parties... Times when you are generally supposed to conform and be a backdrop appearance-wise, sort of. Refusing to bow down can be extremely immature and obnoxious, not to mention plain rude.

You can certainly bend rules quite a lot at times, depending on the occasion...

I have to say, that with the life I'm living, I don't follow rules... I am going to a wedding in a few weeks though, I suspect I will be expected to not wear bermudas and slides... :P

I think they should just have a uniform, something really strict like suits only or don't bother. It's way too subjective otherwise. I've been to two schools with dress codes and it never works out, people find ways to cheat the system and those who are dressed appropriately but are breaking one small stupid rule get punished. For example when I lived in England the A-level students are my school were not allowed to wear jeans or trainers. I would come in with extra dark wash jeans and simple black trainers and would be told to go change over the girl with skintight black flare trousers (you know those really tight stretchy ones that were big 5 years ago) and those massive chunky high heeled platform boots. :yuk:

Hum ... I attended a catholic school ... we wore an uniform ... in a way it's nice of not having the pressure of "What am I going to wear ... ?" every day ... and yes, as banana said it ... there are ways to cheat on the code ... the only think that I didn't like about uniforms, it's that purpose was to homogenize people ... the principle it's OK, but I think it messes up with your mind and identity ... so now ... about dress codes ... I kinda cheat 'em ... wear my own signature pieces and sometimes I *do* sabotage dress codes ...
But that's me ... Oh, well!
