Dries Van Noten F/W 2017.18 Paris

I never linked design with art. Design is about propositions and solutions. That's how I see fashion.

I also never said that fashion isn't a business, although its transformation into industry under capitalism came after the fact and not before. My value judgments simply do not take into account capitalistic values.

I also never said that I didn't value innovation. It's simply not the only central criterion for how I appraise fashion. There are other values I consider.

Answering me that "I see fashion as a venture in capitalism" made me think you saw fashion as just art. You didn´t explain yourself.

In your first post you said "Sometimes, I wonder about the obsession with innovation in fashion (or any artistic or design field)."
Although I respect your opinion and point of view, I saw this as a contradiction after you told me "I see fashion as a venture in design".
And it is just because for me design and trying to innovate are together. I can´t consider design the fact of just keep making the same things the same way, with minor cosmetic changes.

Art isn't exactly the opposite of capitalism. And besides, I don't really believe in binaries. While I may appreciate innovation whenever applicable, I don't think that because something lacks innovation means it has failed as design.

I'm simply wondering about the obsession with innovation and originality in fashion. There seems to be an overemphasis in the field regardless of context. Anyway, if TFS members really wanted innovation, they should pay more attention to Anrealage and Issey Miyake.

Art is creating something which sole purpose is expression. Although there´s an art market, the purpose of art is not being sold. So, it´s no wonder why I immediately though of art after reading your ambiguous sentence about capitalism.
There are people who think about fashion as an art too.

I´m more interested in Rick Owens, by the way. And I like unknown japanese brands/designers as well; but it doesn´t mean I have to ignore the work of mainstream designers (even if normally they bore me to death and beyond).

I made it clear early on that I see fashion as design. Art and design are two very different things. I don't know how my statement can be read as ambiguous.

Issey Miyake is far from unknown, but Anrealage doesn't even have a thread here in the forums. To go back to this collection, I only said I was fine with this reiteration. I don't even think it's particularly strong. The Dries customer will find much to like here.

Don´t you still understand that if you tell me I´m into capitalism it´s normal I think you don´t like the business aspect of fashion (and that you are only interested in the creative/artistic part)??? Is it so difficult?? Hence it is why I told you your answer was ambiguous!

Read my last answer slowly again...where did I mention Miyake or Anrealage?? When I said "And I like unknown japanese brands/designers as well" I was not talking about them!
I was talking about brands like Guerrilla Group; I never mentioned those two!
Miyake is famous since the 80s outside Japan; and Anrealage is quite known in the industry since several seasons ago has been covered by Vogue.com (and yes, it has a thread here to discuss the new collection...but no, I´m not into this brand).

The petit doc they did for the collection needs some more love. It's so heartwarming to see a beautiful moment like this being captured in every way.
