“Black is Back,” as the September EBONY celebrates the influence of Blacks in the fashion industry. From the players, to the clothes, to the Historymakers, EBONY has dedicated 50-plus pages to all that is beautiful in fashion. And to start things off fashionably correct, EBONY gathered top models Tyra Banks, Iman, Kimora Lee Simmons and Alek Wek to grace this historic cover.

As the four divas tell their own stories of how they’ve evolved from mere models to moguls, they can’t help but recount the reality of being Black in the fashion industry. “A lot of the times the fashion world doesn’t give a lot of attention to American Black girls from urban areas,” says Banks. “I don’t mean to pat my own back, but America’s Next Top Model pulled down the curtain to this world that people thought they couldn’t be a part of. Now every girl is like, ‘I want to be a model.’ I feel like the world is more accessible, but by no means is it less prestigious.”

i picked up this issue yesterday...there are some profiles inside of patrick robinson, tracy reese, kevan hall, sam fine and other prominent people who have been working in fashion...

i was a bit surprised in their model roundup they didn't feature liya kebede, as she has also done alot outside of modelling, and there was no mention of pat mcgrath, possibly one of the greatest makeup artists working, but you can't have everything...

Kimora is half asian and a former model for Chanel (but I've never seen the photos) when she was 13. Now she is the designer/owner(?) of Baby Phat.

They mentioned Liya. They contacted her and Naomi, but scheduling conflicts or something prevented both from participating.

I picked up the issue, too, and enjoyed it.

I wanted Liya and Naomi to be on the cover.
Anyway, Tyra and Alek look pretty but Kimora , and i'm not a fan of Iman.. I was going to buy this issue but i didn't have enough money..

but overall it's a really beautiful cover.

I would have definately prefered Kimora off the cover, instead replaced with Liya.
