"Close-up of the hands of model and writer Ilka Chase (aka Mrs. Norton Sager Brown) (daughter of VOGUE editor Edna Woolman Chase) as she plays with mah-jongg tiles: rope of pearls wrapped around one wrist; on the other arm an emerald and diamond bracelet (the emerald conceals a timepiece), and a diamond bracelet; an emerald-cut diamond ring; all from Cartier."
A little off topic - but the majong game is one of the oldest games still being played today - it traces back in historic time to 2350 b.c. Some tiles are made out of Bakelite! They used to be made of wood and ivroy, and a whole host of other natural materials that have become rare and precious. Lovely image!
