Emmanuelle Alt Officially Announces Departure from Vogue Paris as EIC

Carine was in conflict with her boss at that time, and she was not pleased by Emmanuelle when she resigned... Obviously, she wanted EA to resign also...

But i've heard also that EA contribute to poison the boss head with some stories about Carine that make the situation bad...also bc she possibly know she was the perfect candidate to be EIC after Carine.

I have it on VERY good authority that Emmanuelle Alt did something for Harper's Bazaar France and I'm not sure yet if the role is freelancing/on the masthead but it's happening which...can we just unpack this for a minute?!?

Alt and Carine back under the same umbrella again, but in the most bizarre way...lol
The idea of Harper's Bazaar as the ultimate rival for Vogue France which is now relegated to just another franchise and no longer the commanding French pov in fashion. I predict Hearst will invest in some global head of content to shape up the US and UK editions as well to book big names. For a very long time, UK and US Vogue enjoyed exclusive access to cream of the crop photographers, which might soon become a thing of the past?
Alt working under a man, albeit a very directional EIC. Lalanne did wonders at GQ France, I must still flip through HB France to judge for myself if he's up to the task. Because magazines aren't just about edits. But will she be able to follow the HB brief, or will she just do Alt because she's Alt?

Bazaar France is not under Hearst but Prisma Media that is owned by Vivendi (Vincent Bolloré)…

So they are totally free in terms of content. Of course I believe they might have some agreement if the French edition want to have access to some exclusive content.

So I can see Emmanuelle part of that team as a contributing editor (that wlll allow her to do her consulting) but Carine… No.

The ambition for Bollore who has already taken the media by storm in France is really to have full media empire. I find it really interesting in a way because he took a different approach to usual billionaires investments in magazines that are fashion related in a way…

In a way, because a lot of money is injected in this project, they can make a lot of noise and disrupt the influence of Vogue France in the landscape. All the people involved in this Bazaar are respected veterans who have created relationships with brands and creatives over the years. Vogue France is a new generation in construction.

My fear is that this magazine might look passé in terms of content.

Curious about Carine's reputation in French fashion media industry. I mean, is she still an icon locally after her landing in nyc for a decade? Any positive and negative about her locally?

She was just on the cover of French Elle. That must count for something.

finally. her love for only white models with the occasional token asian or african model is appalling.

She is a legend so people will always have respect for her. Her magazine, her vision, her work with Tom and even her style has influenced at least 2 generations…

‘Indeed I think going to NYC diluted the impact of her voice. It allowed her to rebrand herself and think about herself as a brand but she wanted to be celebrated and let’s be honest, the rumors regarding her leaving VP were embarrassing.

She went to NYC to create an international magazine when she is the epitome of a certain idea of Parisian chic and when the majority of her clients were in Europe.

But now she is back full time in Paris i think and it’s good.

To her credit, she has a warm personality. Not necessarily what we could expect from someone like her or with her background. And her assistants or people who benefited from her support are in good positions too.

The fashion director of ELLE used to work for her. This is the best appreciation ever to put your old boss on the cover of such an important magazine once you are in position of power.

Carine was that famous as Anna and Franca at her time at Vogue. She's well known not only in France, but in every place. Editors really were like rockstars in the 90s and 2000s. Wished her vision of VP stayed at her magazine, but I always find it too American and commercial. I doubt she listen to most of the singers she puts at CR. Quite lost her individuality pleasing social media, but I still love her.

My dream is to Alt to become EIC of another magazine, Bazaar US would be amazing

Oh god no, Samria's Bazaar is DOA but... Alt wouldn't be right at all for an American publication.

At this point Alt's work for Self Service, Holiday and M le Monde is very much with the same photographers as before at Vogue Paris such as Sims, I&V, Sorrenti. Even though it can be repetitive at times, her way of styling is usually very good.

I feel like she's under-used commercially. Maybe she doesn't want to but I would love for her to go back to styling shows, I can name a few designers who could use her skills.

carine is better than anna and emmanuelle is better than edward
None of them are doing the same job…
Carine doesn’t get the US Market. Obviously her best work for the US was for US Vogue under the direction of Anna…We see CRFB is a bit of a mess in terms of direction…

The US market is very difficult. The cultural differences are very different. She would be terrible for the US market and the politics involved.
To survive in the US involves being pragmatic. Something Edward is perfectly at ease with…
Emmanuelle ain’t going to put big girls on the magazine just because it’s politically correct or because that’s what the audience wants.
