Maybe it's just me... but I feel a new air about Emmanuelle. I've never seen her sport coats like that before, so I feel like maybe she needs to play the part of EIC more.
Emmanuelle Alt: Vogue Paris 'will be the same but different'
Incoming Vogue Paris editor Emmanuelle Alt talks about her new job, her love of Topshop and plans for the magazine.
BY Richard Reed | 26 January 2011
Since the announcement went out that Emmanuelle Alt was to succeed Carine Roitfeld as the new editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris, the fashion world has been dying to hear what she has planned for the style bible.
We caught up with Alt backstage at the Chanel haute couture spring/summer 2011 show in Paris, where she gave us her first video interview since accepting the role, and told Hilary Alexander about her surprise and joy at being chosen.
"I never thought about my future', she said on being asked if this job was something she had dreamed of all her life, 'I'm not somebody looking at tomorrow, I really live like today. So I never thought about it, but it was like - why not? It's great news!"
Alt went on to tell us how she got the fashion bug after seeing her first catwalk show aged 19: "My first fashion show was a Jean Paul Gaultier show when he was at Porte de la Vilette and it was crazy outside. I loved it! I was like 'Oh wow, this is really funny!'"
Talking us through her outfit, Alt - a firm favourite with street style bloggers at the collections - explained how her signature rock and roll style has a secret ingredient from the great British high street… "My jeans are Topshop - I love Topshop. When I go to London my first thing to do is I put my stuff in the hotel and I run to Topshop - they have the best jeans!"
Alt has already revealed that the first cover under her leadership will star Gisele Bundchen, shot in St. Barts by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matatin, but what else does her vision for Vogue Paris consist of?
"French Vogue today is a successful magazine and it has a strong identity, so it will probably stay along the same lines' she explained. 'But, I mean, some things will change of course, because we have a different eye - It will be the same, but different!"
So there we have it. Perhaps, as the French would say, plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose, but we won't find out for sure until the August issue - the first to completely reflect her new direction.
Paris Vogue's new EIC Emmanuelle Alt is slowly stepping into her predecessor's sky-high Louboutins. Posing with Johnathan Newhouse aka Chairman of Condé Nast International, she attended a Vogue Paris dinner last night hosed by none other than Carine Roitfeld in honour of Frida Giannini as part of Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week at Hotel de la Rochefoucauld Doudeauville. Loving her black fox fur!
^ Loved her unpretentious attitude and simplicity in the video! Thanks for sharing!
