Encouraging Hair Growth - How to's and Products

I heard braiding your hair at night promotes hair growth due to the tension/pulling of the hair follicles.

ZINC

In laboratory tests animals fed with a zinc supplement showed signs of more hair growth, as opposed to loss of hair in animals that were deprived of zinc in their feed. It was discovered that there was a change in the hair protein structure when zinc was deficient in the diet. Severe zinc deficiency in humans has been shown to produce baldness and scalp problems that were reversed when zinc was returned to the diet. Zinc has also been shown to stop hair turning grey. One doctor taking zinc for a year reversed the grey hairs which returned to their original color. Zinc can be depleted by high stress levels. For a good source of zinc, wheat germ is the best, other sources are brewer's yeast, pumpkin seeds, oysters and mussels, shrimps and egg yolks. One delightful effect of zinc is that it has long been regarded as an aphrodisiac, and as such it can be very beneficial for your sex life, which is not a bad side effect to have.

How to use zinc?

Zinc stimulates hair growth by enhancing immune function.
Dosage: 50-100 mg daily. Do not exceed this amount.

I am a total hair farmer. :p My tricks are cool water wash, simple shampoo and a light conditioner based on coconut oil, no blow dryer or curlers, a coconut oil treatment once a week, avoiding the sun and wind, and eating well. Also, I use a boar bristle brush that's very soft. When my hair is long, I keep it braided most of the time. Also, I never ever ever color my hair.

Forgive me if these have already been discussed....

Boitin supplements - but be warned you'll experience all over hair growth

Shampooing twice a week max

100% Boar Bristle Brushes - stimulating the scalp is said to promote growth as well as distribute the natural oils

Castor Oil, olive oil, Henna, B complex, lots of fish... I use them all.

I dont know if i mentioned hair formula 37...but its so expensive. I was desperate so i bought two months supply took them religiously and it really helped my hair growth. It grew half an inch each month, usually my hair grows half an inch every OTHER month so Im really happy that worked! So that really jump start my hair for sure!

If you dont want to spend that much money, then eatting healthy helps. I love drinking soy chocolate milk, eating yogurt, and fish. Plus taking care of your hair by using less heat styling tools and products helps lessen the split ends. Deep condition your hair at least once a week possibly more if the weather is hot!

^ Hair Formula 37 sounds great. Did you experience any bad side effects when using it? It is expensive, but if it works, it may be worth it to me! I was looking at their website, and they also make shampoo and conditioner.

^No i have never had any side effects from it if you are talking about hair growing in other places, BUT if you do buy the formula take step one AFTER you have eaten I dont know why but when I take step one DURING a meal i get the worst stomach ache ever! But that could just be me. Its worth it, it really helped my hair growth

^ Thanks! I am going to try it. I desperately want my hair to grow.

my hair is a little over shoulder length but it hasn't grown in months :( i'm young, too, so it's not like it's past my time  are there any foods i should eat or vitamins i should take? anything besides fish oil pills...
i'm desperate

^ You could try taking biotin supplements. They worked quite well for me. :flower:

I took hair formula 37 to help jump start my growth. But I know that I dont have money to buy that all the time whenever I run out sooooo...I have been taking omega 3 pills 3-4 times daily and a women's one a day vitamin supplement. It works soooo nice and my hair has been extra shiny, probably from the fish oil pills and when I say shiny i dont mean oily shiny.

I also noticed that when I wash my hair more frequently than usual, it grows faster, maybe because I stimulate the roots more.

ooh thanks! i bought some the other day, how much did your hair grow? :)

I just checked and it was only 5mg, not 500.:lol:
I don't know exactly how much it grew, but I noticed it was much faster than usual.

that is good enough for me! thank you for all of your help!

my nails are growing noticabley faster but not my hair :( i am taking 3000 mcg. how long does it take to see a difference?
