Encouraging Hair Growth - How to's and Products

Take MSM as a suppliment. It is excellent for growth and repair and many other things.

So my friend started taking MSM some months ago and told me how different her hair (as well as skin) was. She said it became softer and healthier (and even darker, naturally she's a ravenhead but it had been lighter from the sun, etc.). I finally saw her a couple of weeks ago, and WOW! Her hair looked gorgeous! I seriously couldn't stop touching it. It was so shiny, and soft and looked really lush. And curiously enough, it did look blacker (which is great 'cause I love black hair), but that's probably due to the overall health of it. MSM supposedly helps with collagen and cell repair, so it also affects skin as well as the bones and joints. There are no known side affects according to what I read, other than an increase in energy. Anyway, I started taking it yesterday so we'll see what happens.

And just for weekly maintenance I use coconut oil and it really softens it.

^^You can purchase msm from health food stores and similar stores where vitamins are sold.

I'm currently growing out my hair. During the early stages I wanted faster growth by using topical potions and taking supplements. Although I still take supplements I take them for overall health benefits and not just for hair. What helps is doing less with my hair no color, or heat. I hardly trim since I'm not causing damage to my hair which helps with growth since you're not constantly cutting damage ends away.

Now the weather is getting colder my hair is long enough to do a bun. I'm wearing buns throughout the winter or at least until the weather warms up again. Common article of clothing like wool scarves, hats and coats can snag the hair. The cold weather can also negatively affect the hair.

I used nutricap....and i swear my nails grew really long in just 2 weeks!! And my hair grew a lot more in 1 month then it usualy does!! I recomend that

my friend recommanded me this supplement pill from holland and barrant for skin, nails and hair (uk health store) and i been taking it on and off. but lately i been taking it regularly so i will see how it goes. im gonna cut my hair soon anyways. but my nails have been growing so fast, it's a bit annoying have to cut it so often.

I just can't put oil on my scalp-my hair would be flat for weeks. I'm taking hair skin and nails vitamins and my nails are growing like crazy. I did get 1/2" of growth last month.

I heard that Monistat on your scalp works. Weird, I know, something about the anti-fungal properties of it. While it did get rid of the itchiness and flakes in my scalp, I don't think I had anymore growth than usual.

I've found that Kelp supplements along with an A-Z helps a lot... I've noticed since i became lazy/forgetful and stopped taking them for a month or so that growth practially stopped.. so I'm going to start again as it definitely worked for me.

Just wondering what everyones experience with oils are like?
I have this tub of Coconut Oil, from Holland & Barret (uk), which i heat up and slather on my hair, probably only every month now. I leave it on for an hour or two usually but then I actually have to use a ton of shampoo and a bit of washing up liquid just so that my hair will be suitable for public viewing again... Which is probably reversing the effect of using the oil in the first place!
Are there any other oils that perhaps wash out easier and dont leave your hair so greasy? Mine gets greasy quickly as it is so the coconut oil doesnt help but I've heard so much positive talk about it helping hair grow long strong and shiny. My hair is so dry

Sorry for the essay!!

I've read about Philip Kingsley PK4 Protein Capsules in Marie Claire, does it really works?

My granny has really long hair, and she insists on cutting it only on special days (has something to do with the phase of the moon/ the lunar calender I think) and it always grows back sooo fast  So, seems to work!

try this mix : cocnut oil + castor oil, put it in your hair for 1-2 hours, if you sleep with it thats even better...cause hair fociles open up during your sleep and they absorb the oil faster.
also try : olive oil ( it darkens and strengthens the hair) I once dyed my hair caramel blonde it was too light, i was going to dye it again, my mom suggested that i oil my hair with olive oil, three days later, it went almost 3 to 4 shades darker! it was a subtle dark caramel, almost chestnut! perfect shade!

the castor oil acts as a cataylst to increase hair growth, i know i've mentioned it various times in the eyebrow thread but its worth mentioning it here as well..

as how to get rid of the oil on your scalp, use shampoo for oily hair, that usually does the trick for me. Just buy a shampoo thats for oily hair, and when you want to get the oil out of ur hair later with that shampoo properly and it will go away:)

I'm trying to grow my hair out and my stylist swears by the Farmers Almanic which it sounds like what your grandmother uses too. Apparently I'm cutting my hair on all of the wrong days! There are days (2 a month) to engourage growth and ecourage growth. Just google it and it should come up. If I remember correctly, the 13th and 14th of this month are bad days to cut your hair if you want to grow it out.

After cutting my hair this past November (a decision that seemed like such a good idea at the time!), I'm now desperately trying to grow my hair out! I've always been very concerned regarding the health of my hair, and my hairstylist even told me once that my hair is "too healthy." How about that? ;)

Anyway, my question is, has anyone here tried a rosemary hair rinse, and if so, has it had any effect on your hair? I found a tutorial on eHow.com which calls for either dried or fresh rosemary, boiling water, and apple cider vinegar. Though I've read in the past of how rosemary is supposed to work wonders, I'm curious to see if anyone can offer their personal experiences with it. Here's the tutorial if others want to use it.

it's always been said warm weather makes the hair grow faster. I experience it all the time, especially during summer time(love it because it's so thick in the summer). also, when you workout, and you're sweating and you're hot. the pores on your head open up(that's why it's good to tie your hair up in a bun when you workout..it keeps the head warm)

seanutbutter, I have not done this particular rinse with rosemary per se, but I have used similar one with chamomile tea, and often use apple cider vinegar in the final rinse of my hair. The a.c.v. really helps to smooth the cuticles of my very fine but very dense curly hair, and the chamomile brought out dark ash/goldish tones in my dark brown hair ( it usually has a quite red tone/highlights). If your hair has any type of texture to it ( curly/wavy) the rinse will probably help cut down frizz and make your hair much smoother.

You also may want to try deep conditioning weekly (it helps me retain length since my hair is quite dry and fragile) and if you heat style your hair, maybe try to cut down on how often you do so. You say your hair is quite healthy already, so I am sure these thing could help it grow even faster and healthier.hope this is helpful to you:flower:.

Thank you for the tips, birgitta! I've researched a bit more on rosemary since my last post and am now very anxious to try it in some form or another. I'll also look into your other suggestions - I do use a flat iron most days, but I'm trying to cut back because I know it can't possibly be healthy for my hair!

I also need to try some of these tips. I'm so desperate to grow my hair back. I used to have such long hair and it was really healthy, but I got a haircut a few months ago and the stylist aka psycho just chopped it all off after I explained that I only wanted a few inches off. Needless to say, I left in tears. well, there's not a whole lot I can do about it now, so I'm going to try some of these suggestions!

coconut oil - keeping it on overnight really helps.. it even stops hair from falling
I sometimes use a mix of olive oil, egg yolks, honey and lime
some people add a vitamin E capsule to it as well.

Ok, I don't know if it's just an overactive imagination and wishful thinking, but I've been using mane & tail shampoo and doing castor oil treatments, and I swear my hair has grown longer this week. Hopefully it's really happening!!

 I promise you that it isn't true - as you said, her hair always grows back fast, so maybe it actually just grows fast no matter when she cuts it? ;)
