Erin Wasson

Erin is the only tolerable part of Styled to Rock and even then I can't bring myself to continue to watch it.

What happens when a supermodel teams up with a killer indie brand? Magic, people. Yes, Erin Wasson and California-based cool-girl destination Wasteland joined forces for an exclusive collaboration just for you. Blending vintage pieces that Wasson contributed (we're talking goods from Balenciaga, Isabel Marant, Miu Miu, and Acne), this part-hippie, part-downtown-chic-inspired collection is chock-full of jersey dresses, flowy blouses, the raddest oversize trousers, and so much more. Plus, all proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Saving America's Mustangs organization, which fights to protect America's wild horses. If that's not reason enough to shop (and spend lots of moola), what is?

So, if you're still on the hunt for a last-minute gift for that well-deserving gal in your life or just want to indulge in some new wardrobe pieces for yourself, click through to catch a glimpse (and shop, of course) this supermodel-worthy collection. And, don't hold your horses — this line will go fast.

Our beauty editor Deborah Fulsang was lucky enough to sit down with the model, TV host, jewellery designer and all-round-cool chick, Erin Wasson recently while she was in town to give some star power to Target’s holiday runway event during World Mastercard Fashion Week.

The result: A new girl crush. Wasson is cool, calm and loves to cook.
Deborah Fulsang: How do you recoup your energy after a busy runway or shooting schedule?
Erin Wasson: You know, it’s really awesome because I live in California, so the second I finish any project I am going [home] to a place that’s four blocks away from the beach. It is my sanctuary, so my way of turning off is simply being home and being able to go to the grocery store and cook myself an amazing meal. I go into domestication mode! Doing laundry and taking a bath; it’s like the mundane things in life are the purest luxuries.
Do you like to cook?
I love to cook!

What is your favourite thing to cook for people you love?
I love reading cooking magazines; I read them like the bible. People think I’m crazy when I am literally like dissecting recipes on an airplane. I love lots of fish, I am not a red-meat eater whatsoever. I love grains. I love roasted vegetables and playing with different herbs. It’s very straight-forward, very basic farm-to-table kind of food.
Favourite type of music to be on the runway with or have on while at a shoot?
I mean, anything on the runway, it is always good to have a beat, be it hip-hop or Motown. Hanging out with friends: It’s cool records… whatever happens to be on the turn-table. For photo shoots, it changes. You want something mellow on arrival, while you’re getting your hair and makeup done and it’s in the morning and you’re still tired and you don’t want anything too-in-your-face. And then on set, I like a little soul and a little funk.

Favourite fragrance?
I wear Imperiale by Guerlain. [FYI, readers, that’s a citrusy aromatic cologne launched in 1860 by the iconic French house. Very cool.]

Why?
The scent just speaks to me. I haven’t even been able to figure out the notes but there has to be some amber in it; that must be one of the reasons I’m drawn to it.

What was the last piece of clothing you bought?
I can’t remember. It was probably another white T-shirt that I didn’t need. I am always on the hunt for the perfect white tee. I stumbled upon a brand called “White” that I am really into.

When do you feel most beautiful?
Whenever I am outside, not thinking about work with no makeup on, on the beach hanging out with friends or riding my bike. It’s when I’m not thinking about whether I feel beautiful or not.
What’s your favourite skincare line?
It’s a line called Radical and products from Biologic-Remedy. It is sort of a combination from those two lines.

Is there a good skincare tip or trick you picked up on your travels?
I recently had an experience in Paris where I went to a dermatologist and they gave me a cream and I had an allergic reaction to it and I ended up with a burn on my face. So, I started using diaper cream on my skin and out of all the homeopathic things that I tried to heal it with, it was actually the combination of diaper cream and Aloe Vera that was my 911 skin saver!

If you’re a T-shirt kinda person, you probably like your lip balms. Any favourites?
I like the Baby-Lips, man! Just regular, no colour—you can use it on your cuticles too!

What’s the most influential fashion project you’ve been involved in?
Collaborating with Alex Wang was a huge pinnacle moment in my life. Anytime I ever did a runway show with Alexander McQueen, it always felt like something bigger than just fashion. Being a voice and a spokesperson for young girls with Maybelline for 11 years has been an absolute honour. It is a combination of a lot of things, because I have been granted a lot of incredible opportunities.
What is the last thing you did that was your most creative?
Just finishing my jewelry line four days ago (Low Luv by Erin Wasson). I just put the final touches on everything and it’s going to be in production and ready to rumble. It’s been months of research, sketching and editing, and then you finally look at the collection and say. “Yes. It’s all right.” And I got to have that moment to pat myself on the back four days ago.

Can you describe your line to me?
They are very abstracted, based on form. [Jewellery] is alchemy, it’s how metals work together and how they make you feel. I wanted to make jewelry pieces that I had never seen before and I hope no one else has seen before.

What do you love about yourself?
I love that I know I am a good friend and a hard-worker. I love that I know exactly who I am and what I want out of this life. I love that I am self-deprecating.

What do you want out of this lifetime?
To fulfill my soul. I don’t want to spend my life just making a living and forgetting to live my life. I want to work hard and interject [that] with beautiful moments of passion in between. I want to continue to challenge and reinvent myself. I want to die with a really well-rounded life.

Always love her interviews, so down to earth and real. And effortlessly sexy in the red DVF dress.
