Erin Wasson

Thank you MayaStar for the updates!!!
She's the epitome of wild & cool. Too rad to be true when the styling & makeup is natural. Love the recent freepeople lookbook shots.

It makes sense that Madewell—a brand beloved for their denim, from the slouchy Boy Jean to the stovepipe Skinny Skinny style— chose Erin Wasson to star in their spring lookbook. Not only is Wasson gorgeous in that legitimate "I woke up like this" way (unbrushed hair, smudged eye makeup), she's a true denim devotee, too. Seeing her shill jeans is like watching Kate Moss model leopard print: It just fits.

"Every day, if I’m in L.A., I wear denim jean shorts," says Wasson at a dinner to celebrate the spring lookbook. (It'll be released on their Pinterest this weekend, but we've got the exclusive first images for you right here.) "I’m a Texas girl," Wasson explains. "I wear jeans and cowboy boots pretty much all the time." With options like these (Wasson especially loves the midrise cuts, saying "that perfect in between fit—not a low or high—creates a way better silhouette for the body"), who wouldn't want to?

Of course, the lookbook's exotic setting contributed to the denim looking so gorgeous, too. Shot in Malta early last fall, the chalky whites of the stone buildings and riverbeds helped those chambray shirts and denim shorts really stand out. And as for the rest of the stuff? From the Paris muscle tee to the black moto vest and its very cool hardware, we love it, too. After all, a girl has to have something to wear with her denim, right?

Same here. I have a soft spot for Erin Wasson. I'm glad she seems to be all over the place lately. I even watched her on Styled to Rock.

MODEL MOMENT: ERIN WASSON
The new face of Madewell talks identity, the Internet and shopping out of necessity.

By Kerry Pieri on Mar 10, 2014

Wasson is the face of Madewell's new Spring 2014 catalog, a decidedly more edgy approach for the brand. Wasson has become as synonymous with her original off-duty style as she has her modeling work, securing a rarefied place in the style influencer realm. Below, BAZAAR talks to the Texas native about her fashion philosophies and what's next.

What is your current modeling philosophy? Has it changed since you started?
I have always tried to just create a language through subtle movements, to create powerful and relaxed images. It has changed in a way yes, but in another way no, because I find myself being able to be more myself at this point in my career.

How do you decide which projects to take on?
I let authenticity guide me through my career. When it comes to collaborating with other brands, I hope their mantras are similar to mine and we can create something special together.

Go to daily uniform?
My black leather pants, oversized Madewell tanks and cowboy boots.

How would you describe your personal style now?
Slightly on a diet.

How do you approach shopping?
Shopping for me is something I do out of necessity. It comes more from the research perspective versus consumer perspective.

Any fun spring break plans?
I am heading up to Ojai for some sunshine and mountain views.

What would you pack?
My leather Madewell tote for all of the necessities: sunglasses, sunscreen and my favorite two piece red bathing suit.

Favorite city to visit?
Buenos Aires.

Favorite city to live in?
Between Venice (CA) and Austin.

What are the best parts about modeling industry now? Worst?
The best part about the modeling industry now is that we are living in a place where so many creative worlds are colliding. Fashion, music, film... these industries are symbiotic and are closer now more than ever. The worst things about the industry now is this excess mentality, the Internet has eliminated any exclusivity for us.

Ideal model off-duty activity?
Spending time with close friends, going to art shows, taking my dog to the beach or sitting at home reading a book.

Where do you want to be in 5 years?
I would love to be living in-between Hawaii and Ojai.
