Franklyn is a very uneven film, can't say I enjoyed it. But there are some arresting scenes, and it's definitely a must-see for Eva fans. I can't think of any other young actress who could make such an outrageous character believable and somewhat sympathetic.
And she looks gorgeously Gothic throughout, even though there are some unflattering shots of her; you can tell she doesn't let vanity get in the way of her acting. As for her self-written monologue, it wasn't that good, too 'teen-angst poetry' for me. Her personal interviews are a lot more eloquent.
All in all, worth watching for Eva and Sam Riley (the other actors are wasted), and a deliciously macabre set design. But the story doesn't gel, and there are too many loose ends, ala David Lynch, but less successful.
