TMZ has learned Eva Mendes is in Utah battling a substance abuse problem.

We're told the "Ghost Rider" star is at the famous Cirque Lodge, near Sundance. The Lodge, which treated Lindsay Lohan and other stars, is one of the most respected treatment facilities in the country.

Eva has been at Cirque for several weeks.

TMZ contacted her rep, who did not return multiple calls for comment.

I really abhor TMZ and I also wonder how these people sleep at night. Does money matter that much more than having some actual dignity and humanity? What would these people do or think if it was their own familys' privacy being invaded?

Sometimes I wonder why things like this are even news. If someone has a substance abuse issue they should be allowed to deal with it privately - if her publicist didn't release this information into the public sphere it shouldn't be put out there by places like TMZ. How is anyone ever supposed to get well if the entire world knows that they're struggling with something like this?

I'm not anti-celeb gossip, heaven knows I love it but with something like this I just feel like there should be some privacy. There are certain things its not good for everyone on earth to know about.
