Because it's considered prestigious to do an exclusive for a major designer like Prada, Calvin Klein, Balenciaga, or Givenchy.

The assumption is supposed to be that the girl could have walked a lot of other good shows, but that one major client wanted the girl so badly they were willing to pay an exclusivity fee to have her walk only for them.

I've come to think that exclusives, especially worldwide ones are actually kind of useless for a model, and in some cases, even a hindrance. There are so many girls who did exclusives for CK, Balenciaga, Prada etc. who have gone absolutely nowhere since. If a girl has the potential to book a number of shows, including some top ones mixed in with some middling ones, I think it's a much better strategy. If she can't book any show except that one exclusive, no matter how big of a name the designer is, I have to believe that the fashion world really isn't interested in her and won't be even after the exclusive. Just my opinion.

I totally agree, especially worldwide exclusives aren't useful unless there's a guaranteed campaign attached to it (which is almost never the case). A city exclusive in NY or Milan means a girl can still book major shows in Paris to make some kind of an impact.

^Also agree. It can turn out fine just like Ymre, but most of the time they don't even make it in the campaign or will be in the next seasons show.

Poor Josephine. This will go down as yet another example of why it's probably best to keep everything quiet until the girl actually walks down the runway!

Yulia Serzhantova (who was an exclusive last season as well) is a worldwide exclusive again this season, Silent just confirmed it on their twitter.

So 4 exclusives? Kremi, Yulia, Anniek, Julier.
