Tiana Tolstoi seems to be a Balenciaga exclusive. She didn't appear at any shows after Balenciaga :3
styleminutesAlexander Wang has not been casting exclusives in his runway shows for long, but already he has a proven track record of picking girls who become major runway fixtures – think Juliana Schurig and Irina Kravchenko, for instance. There were not as many exclusives and debuts as in past seasons, partly because of all the runway veterans cast (Erin Wasson closed the show). Wang’s selectivity came through in the casting of four faces who had never walked at NYFW before.
Eighteen-year-old Elsa Brisinger is no stranger to the runway, but until this season has only done shows in her native Sweden at Stockholm Fashion Week. Her Alexander Wang debut comes a year after signing with Next Model Management worldwide. American Kate Goodling signed with Ford Models less than a year ago, and after her debut at Wang walked for some of the biggest names at NYFW, including Donna Karan, Calvin Klein and Marc Jacobs. Her run in Milan was no less impressive, as the stunning brunette was at Missoni, Jil Sander and Fendi.
Lexi Boling, another home-grown American with Ford Models, got her first major modeling gig when she did the Balenciaga Resort 2014 look book several months ago. Alexander Wang, Balenciaga’s creative director, seemingly took a liking to the Illinois-born blonde. Russian stunner Svetlana “Sveta” Zakharova has been doing print modeling since 15 and with Oui Management in Paris since 17, but only now has the 19-year-old made her runway debut, and it couldn’t be a better one.
Unlike some designers who contract models to walk exclusively for their show, Wang’s picks actually take off in London, Milan and Paris. So if past seasons are any indication of an Alexander Wang debut or exclusive’s success, these four models are some important faces to watch.
styleminutesPrada and model exclusives have more or less become synonymous – an expected affair season after season. The models who walk Prada are always worth paying attention to; they are chosen, with care, to embody who Miuccia Prada envisions as the wearer of her always innovative collections. The respected designer has typically mixed her casts with known veterans and a many young new exclusives. This particular SS14 season introduced us to even more young debuts and exclusives than previous ones. There were a number of newcomers who only walked the Prada runway as city exclusives. Mariana Santana, discovered at 17, the Brazilian model made the jump from commercial modeling to high fashion as an exclusive and was the second face out behind show opener and closer Amanda Murphy. Also included are Estonian new face Harleth Kuusik (who opened J.W. Anderson in London), Danish Emilie Ellehauge and Russian Nika Cole who previously made her runway debut during Haute Couture FW 2013. Proenza Schouler SS14 closer Emma Champtaloup follows in the footsteps of a many fellow Australian models who walked as Prada exclusives.
We also saw the runway debut of Estonian Maarjan Ridalaan, Latvian Eva Berzina and Julie Hoomans (later a Miu Miu exclusive). Polish model Ola Rudnicka, who has been modeling since she was 16 and with quite extensive hometown runway experience and editorial work, finally made an appearance in a major fashion city as a debut exclusive.
Prada was the first Milan runway for talked about American new face Devon Windsor – whose platinum hair change proved she was high-fashion worthy, and Paulina King, walking for just 3 top Milan runways – Prada, Jil Sander and Marni. Russian duo Nastya Sten and Irina Liss were also semi-exclusives at Prada and both followed up with an impressive SS14 debut showlist including runways of Jil Sander, Bottega Veneta, Roberto Cavalli, Dior, Celine, Chanel, Louis Vuitton amongst many. Catching our eye with her debut on the Prada Menswear SS14 runway, stunning Dutch newcomer Julia Bergshoeff has only exclusively walked for Miuccia-helmed labels – a clear favorite of the designer, one can only expect a campaign in the future for Julia.
