Exclusives

I dont care for exclusives anymore because its so irrelevant. I miss Russell Marsh's castings for Prada in 2000s, those girls became stars. You couldnt walk for Prada just because you are Kendall Jenner (at that time we had Paris and Lindsey L. around) and girls like Selena F. never would be topmodels during 2000s (its obviously difference between her and Lyia which was huge).

I don’t think exclusives really work because of current casting trends in the industry. Back in the day, casting directors seemed to harmonise and would collectively make models stars, but contemporary casting directors are definitely more individualistic and seem less interested in who their peers are casting. This has been good for diversity but they’re definitely too fickle and show little loyalty to the models they cast (Edward Kim & Michelle Lee for Dior, and Ashley Brokaw for Louis Vuitton (but only Louis Vuitton…) are the exceptions).

So, a dumb question: How do we differentiate someone as being an exclusive vs. someone who booked only one show b/c that's the only one who wanted to book her? I don't understand how someone who books only a blue chip runway like Chanel, Pradam Dior, etc. had no interest from another designer and isn't an exclusive.

Like Claire Marie last season? Or Rikke Nora this season?
The agency will announce someone as an exclusive, so unless they do that, they aren't exclusives.

Sometimes you can check the models instagram pages, like MDC doesn't credit Rikke Nora as an exclusive for LV FW 2025, but on instagram

she said she was an exclusive.

Or for Prada FW23 Sascha Rajasalu only walked Prada in MFW. She was not credited an an exclusive, but then like 2 weeks later she posted on Instagram that she was an exclusive with Prada for that season. ( Actually she was an exclusive 2 seasons in a row, but not credited on MDC )

So it is possible some agencies could still be working out deals, or maybe they fell through for some girls etc.
