F/W 2021.22 Haute Couture Open Discussion Thread

From what I saw from the Pyer Moss livestream a few days ago, there was a red gown with a life ring-esque attachment to the hip that had Pyer Moss embroidered on it and some sort of draped green curtain look behind it.

I like him, I find him cute and I think there’s something in there in terms of potential that is so much underused…
Much like @Urban Stylin , I’m curious to see what he does…

But like you, I wonder if we need Pyer Moss Couture. I feel like with him, it’s always more about the intention, the conversation, « The first » such and such than the designs.
I remember a great wedding dress from him but that’s it.

I find difficult to say « his aesthetic is about » and already, he is in Haute Couture.
Part of me thinks that there’s this ego of wanting to be the first African American designer to present officially in HC.
Imane Ayissi is the first black African who did it. It took him years of confidence to decide to apply to show HC…
If we want to be technical, Azzedine Alaia was the first African designer to be aknowledge as Couturier…

I hope that Kerby’s collection will speak for itself.

Agreed, its alway smore about the show/hype than the aesthetic when it comes to him. Unfortunately that mostly works for RTW/Streetwear not couture where design skills and craft take centerstage. His choice of venue makes me curious, would want to see how he's going to incorporate his style and story. I guess it has started

After watching have to say I was a little underwhelmed. It was impressive seeing his spotlighting black greatness but many expected more couture and this felt a little more camp almost like a Moschino RTW show. I wish he had shown some couture pieces after the tribute, inspired by the tribute pieces.

Everyone was waiting for what was next after the show ended because that felt like an intro

LOL this person clearly has not the slightest interest nor an inkling of passion in his fashion. He’s only ever interested in becoming famous, and being the first Black man to be this or be that. It’s all about his ego. Without race to fall back on, he has nothing. And he knows it. He’s so toxic to the industry but people are too afraid to call him out for it in fear of being labelled racist. And he gleefully knows it. But you know, good for him for successfully suckering in an entire industry for continuously hyping, enabling and taking him seriously, including the CFDA: Once again proving that the industry isn't full of the brightest people.

I also found the music questionable having someone singing the N word multiple times in Madam CJ Walker's estate.

Just want to say many APPLAUSES from me!

It was my biggest fear…And it was confirmed. The only goal about this whole project was to be the « first »…And to be named alongside those great figures who were the firsts. Do I need to say that those figures invented things that were lifechanging for the world?

So suddenly, being the first in the institution that has nothing to do with American history anyway feels kinda…weird. I mean, even Charles James never felt the need to be part of that institution… But oh well, to each his own.

Of course, as usual with Kerby, the hype, the message, the intention, was bigger than the clothes…Which were badly made tbh.

AA designers deserved a better representation than this.
I know the Chambre Syndicale never invites people, you have to apply…But I really wish someone would have motivated Stephen Burrows to present a Couture collection. He would have been a more legitimate figure. Someone who understand and respect clothes and who truly means something for the culture…For what he achieved.
