I think it's important to know what suits your face shape. Here's a guide.:flower:

Hairstyles :

What is the shape of your face?
In order to determine the shape of your face, you will need to measure it. Measure your face from top to bottom and from side to side. If your face is oval shaped, then the length will equal to one and a half times the width. When the length of your face equals the width, then you have a round face. Triangular shaped faces have wide chins and narrow foreheads. Lastly, square shaped faces have a jawline, cheekbone and forehead almost equal in width.

Heart-shaped face

A wide short forehead being the widest at the temples and then narrowing to a small delicate chin.

Choose softer styles with layers or curls, side parts and wispy bangs will work for you in chin length or longer styles. You want to add width around your narrow chin so avoid short full styles with tapered neck lines that emphasize the upper face. For shorter styles you need to leave weight in the back nape of the neck area to achieve a more balanced look. A Chin length bob looks great on your face because it gives fullness where you need it.

In order to express your features, you must try to diminish the width of your forehead and make your jaw wider. If you want bangs, wear them full and curly. Wear your hair fuller at the top than near your jawline. Your hair should be either short or of medium length and point your hair towards your face, since this will help to widen your chin. If you love short cut bobs up to your chin, then you should definitely get one, since your heart-shaped face will make you look like you just walked out of a magazine.

High forehead and a narrow slightly rounded chin. Only a little narrower at the jaw line than a the temples with a nice rounded hairline.

Since, you are blessed with an oval face, mostly any hairstyle will look good on you. You can wear your hair short, medium or long. A wonderful hairstyle would be one in which you do a side or a center parting and let your hair rest on your shoulders. In addition, you may also wear your hair slicked back or pulled back. However, it is advisable to have your hair away from your face and not to have too full bangs. Your face shape is adaptable to almost any hairstyle and that is why you should experiment and see which one you like the best.

A wide, short forehead with a round chin and hairline. Widest at the cheeks and ears.

If you have found out that you have a round face, remember either to have short hair or chin length hair. You should consider layering your hair right from the top and keep your hair close to your face. Do not cut your hair very, very short and have a haircut that is rounded and ends at your chin. This will exaggerate your face shape even more. Straight bangs are not recommended, but if you love bangs, you should curl them and wear them to the side. These types of hairstyles will make your face look longer, which is what you want to strive for. Do not keep a lot of hair near the sides of your face and near your ears. However, wispy curls curled towards your face is recommendable. The point of all these hairstyles is to make your face look longer and less rounder and to accentuate your beautiful features.

A wide, short forehead and strong square jaw line.

A square face has a very sharp angled jawline and has square shaped eyebrows. In order to lessen these features, you should strive for hairstyles that emphasize the cheekbones. Hairstyles worn in curls and waves will give shape to your square face. The length of hair that is perfect for you is about 1-1/2” below the chin or to have shoulder length hair. Your hair at these lengths will help to alleviate the squareness of your jaw line. It is advisable not to let your hair hang and better to wear a side part than a center part. Any freeflowing hairstyle for this shape will look wonderful.

Narrow at the temples, slightly wider at the cheeks and widest at the jaw line, is almost a reverse of the heart-shape.

Since you have a triangular shaped face, you want to narrow the chin and widen the forehead. Keep your hair away from your face and ear to widen your forehead. In addition, you should angle your hair towards the chin. You should keep your hair length at least up to your chin and cut your hair in lots of layers. Also if you let your hair loose tuck it behind your ears so that it will help to highlight your eyes and increase the width around this area. In addition, instead of parting your hair in the center, try parting it off-center and see the model look you have always loved!

A long slender face with about the same width at the forehead and just below the cheekbones. Can have a high forehead and long jaw or a narrow chin.

Go for fullness at the sides of your face to add width in that area. Choose short to medium length styles as long styles can make your face look even longer. Suitable short styles include the Wedge design and soft wispy bangs will help shorten the appearance of a long face.

A cross between a heart and an oval shaped face it is widest at the check bones and narrows equally at the forehead and jaw line. Has a smaller delicate chin.

Your face shape is balanced and can be quite dramatic which allows you to try a variety of styles. As long as you are a true diamond most every style will work for your face. If you are a more dramatic diamond with a smaller chin make sure to leave weight in the back nape of the neck area like the heart shaped face when choosing a short style. Wispy bangs help create more of an oval look and graduated bobs that fall to chin length will also look great.

Great thread jadee.... Very helpful info! :flower:

Somehow I still haven't figured out what my facial shape is.... it's such a mega "mix" of all shapes..... :P

Make up

OVAL:
Here is the perfect face shape, or so we are told. All that is needed for this face shape is some blusher.

LONG SHAPED FACE:
With the long face shape it takes a little longer than the oval. But do not fret, once you have the hang of it you will be doing all of it in no time at all. If your face is long, you could also get a darker shade of foundation and do the forehead and the chin in this shade. Make sure that you don't use a darker shade that is going to stand out, you are trying to make the face look shorter, not bee coloured. Blend the foundation really well with your natural colour. Now for highlighting, you want to highlight either side of cheeks, blush on the cheek bones and shade the chin and the forehead. As in the picture below.

DIAMOND SHAPED FACE:
Blusher will go along the cheek bone as before, but keep it light as this will only emphasise the diamond shape. This time you will highlight either side of the forehead and the lower cheeks. Then shade the chin. This will draw the chin upwards changing the shape of the face.

PEAR SHAPED FACE:
Again blusher as normal. Highlight either side of the forehead, this will bring the forehead outwards a little, then highlight the chin. Shade either side of the jawbone, thus bringing the look of the face inwards. Can you see the change when shaded on this picture, the face looks more oval.

ROUNDED FACE SHAPE:
With a rounded face shape, you can use a darker foundation on the lower outer side of the face, thus giving a slimming effect. Highlight the chin to lengthen the face. Blusher as normal.

HEART SHAPED FACE:
Heart shaped means that you have a wider forehead, which narrows to a point at the chin. Shade the chin to bring the length of the face upwards. Highlight both sides of the jawbone to fill the jawbone out.

SQUARE SHAPED FACE:
Shade the angle of the jawbone and side of the forehead, this will give the look of bringing the face inwards, highlight the sides of the cheekbone. Blush as normal.

I'm not sure if I have a round or oval face. ahhh

same here
we're probably in between

i always thought that I had an oval face but now I'm ...extremely confused.

Added information: It is possible to have your face to morph into a different shape when you smile, because it emphasizes your bone structure differently. I have an oval shape, but it becomes heart-shaped when I smile.

I have a round face... I am not a fan of Diaz's do... Ricci has long hair and Mccartney has kinda, boring hair. I like this:

Too bad I am trying to let my hair grow long.

Someone really needs to tell me my facial shape. I don't get it

I think I read somewhere you can look in the mirror and draw an outline of your face on it... see how it comes out.

I really can't tell. I think it might be diamond b/c I have prominent cheekbones but still a very narrow square-ish jaw. I'm lost

I have a round face shape...I dont like it cause it makes me look bloaded and fat. But determining what your skin tone is, is hard...since im asian most people say we have more of a yellow tone but then i feel that I also have this tannish skin that looks olive too i dont know someone post some pics of peoples that matches a certain skintone!? it would help me a lot.

yeah umm.. this would be helpful if i would know what shape my face is  i think i'm somewhere between round and oval..
