Fair / Pale Skin

..no difference :) all that matters is the SPF number- the higher the better- dont even bother with anything under 15.- take is from an aussie :D
..speaking of which, my skin has gone soo pale after being in europe for half a year- i never knew how pale i really was ;) its tempting to reach for the fake tan...

well, there is a bit difference. Because while sunscreen will allow your skin to get a bit of a tan, sunblock, well, blocks everything out. But of course, not forever, so you have to continue putting it on your skin. You might say, sunblock is sunscreen with SPF number 60.

OT: btw, I'm sorry if my english sucks

To the post above: yes thats right :) sunblocker BLOCKS all of the sunlight. sunscreen only protects your skin from the dangerous things in sunlight (my english isnt that good either :p)

I have a naturally tanned skintone, being that I am Native American, so never found the need to tan. I always use 30spf during the summer and 15spf during the winter. I don't need to be darker than I already am.

I find tanning unhealthy. It is aging you by the hour. Sure you look more like a beach goddess but by the time you are 40, you are going to look like shoe leather.:yuk:

Sunlight is important but not by going out in the sun or in a tanning bed for hours at a time.

I dislike the fake tans just as bad. It just looks fake and makes you look like an oompa loompa. You can always tell when someone misses a spot anyway.

random but im starting to see why makeup artists always want to match me to pink undertoned foundations. either way i still go for the neutral ones because i dont really want to emphasis my pink undertones too much. even in pictures when i wear a light coverage neutral foundation for special occasions, i still see the pinkness showing through. my cheeks are usually conveniently flushed so i forego the blush.

it just sucks because since ive gotten so much paler so fast, most of the makeup i purchased a couple of months ago i cant wear anymore. no matter what brush or technique i use the color is just too harsh on my skin(i like a natural soft look). lucky for my sister who is tan, i gave her my new makeup and it looks great on her!

Anyone know of any good tinted moisturizers for pale skin?

The Dior HydrAction in the lightest shade was a great match to my skin but the smell was too strong for me. I also tried Lancome and Kiehl's, but they don't have much range and the lightest shades of both were too dark. Any recommendations, fellow transparent peeps?? ;)

aMMbitious, hokuspokus and eskimosnow cake:
thanks for the explaination :flower:

unche: Maybe try Laura Mercier, the lightest shade is really nice (but kinda expensive tho)

kissablekae: speaking of that, I am consider swtiching my nc 15 powder to nw15.

just learned in my environmental science class that buying any SPF over 30 is a waste of money. No sublock or sunscreeen can block or screen more than 30.

Thanks dudes! I've heard great things about Laura Mercier TMs; I don't mind paying more for stuff that's worth it. I guess it's off to the land of snobbery aka the Holt Renfrew beauty counter lol...or maybe I'll just wait until the new Sephora opens...XD

wow i didnt get a emails from this thread since ive posted!

hey bunnyyyy! you should definitely try switching to an NW! i really think thats why its not a perfect match. NC leaves me with yellow patches even though its light enough, its like a weird yellow tinge. especially when i had to use it for my cheek area, its always pink(i blush very easily and i just dont do full foundation, only spot concealing!). i notice in pictures that even my forehead has a pinkish cast to it. its not super super pink but i definitely notice it when i compare myself to people i take pictures.

so yeah ive been using MAC for a long time and i usually get matched to NW except once or twice. so i would say its great that the MKA matched me to the right tone...however they usually go too dark! ive gotten matched with both NW30 and NW25 so thats their weakness. the lighting at department stores really suck. id go to the MAC store but its always packed in there

hello kae:
yea, I got it to nw 15, and make the sale thing final, lol and the MA who is in charge of switching my powder also said the NC 15 is too golden on me.

i guess the problem for lots these "yellow/golden toned" foundation is that some they have too much gold/olive/brown in the formula that much not suitable for a lot of people, especially for pale people. As much as pale people can benefit from a yellow-toned foudation (the right yellow can really mute down redness, like green would), too much olive would turn the redness into greyness and the gold would simply leave the skin look sallow (this is how the NC 15 make my skin look).

(and kae, it is ironic that we are both Asian, and Asian was always told that they need a yellow-toned foundation to look natural because they have yellow undertone. and then we both defy that rule :D)

Bunny,
too bad i tossed the box for my Studio Finish concealer NC15 ...i would have exchanged for the NW15. but i still need to go get one. today i tried the NC15 again in natural light and i really cant get it to work no matter how i blend or top with a foundation to down play the tone. im probably going to get paler though because im my tan is still fading so if you guys know of any other brands with good cream concealers let me know!

i totally see how the yellow tones make me look sallow...i get the same sallowness when i had golden blonde hair. ash blonde - creamy/grey tones looks better on me, it just brightens up my face.

when i think of pale i think of a milky complexion, some are much more pink which i agree can benefit from a little bit of yellow like you said. and even if they have yellow undertones its (from what ive seen)incredibly muted.

ive been watching youtube videos and im so tired of hearing that Asians are yellow...its true that many are but what about us?! lol those makeup tips wouldnt help me. yellow foundations just make me look like a Simpsons character because of how it doesnt match my body at all!

i hope i dont burn this summer i dont want to go through the pain again! ughh. last summer i was wearing a sunblock with high spf and still burned so quickly, the day barely started. looks like i'll need to invest in some wide brimmed hats and those cute long sleeve beachy dresses :)

^ i burn the back of my hands (only part that i can't cover/put sunscreen on) last year after i was doing fieldwork for like 2 days. it really look like a rash and the drugstore guy prescibe my hydroscotiscone (a steroid) for the burn because he dont even know what the heck that is.

it was bad

^ aww lol at that guy, he was probably so lost! i would say aloe vera lotions/gels are the best. i went through two full jumbo sized bottles of aloe plus a huge bottle of Lubriderm lotion after the burn on my body...oo and a bottle Neutrogena moisturizer for my face. im scared about how that particular burn may affect me in the future *knock on wood* :*(

i was looking back at old pictures of me when i used to use tanning lotions and its awesome! it looked so natural, i had everyone fooled. it was funny when i stopped using it and everyone was like how did you get so pale so fast?! but those times are behind me, i dont give a sh*t about 'looking tan'. even when i used to use tanning lotions, i never tried to look tan anyways i just wanted a bit of color so i didnt blind people when i wore tank tops. but now i really dont care! if they dont like it then they are just gonna have to learn to because i like being pale...and plus im too lazy to 'fake bake'(use tanning lotions, i never mean a sunbed).

oo and i totally have Diana Moldovan on my desktop right now, she really rocks her fair skin!

That's useful. Thanks for telling.

^ yeah i read some articles with Derms saying its better to reapply an spf15 every two hours than use a spf50 and feeling a false sense of security. i think thats good news, you get less of that 'white cast' to the skin as well

also there has always been a lot of controversy over the worlds sunscreen and sunblock. really the only thing that exist is sunscreen because they are only filters, sunblock makes people think that it will 'block' out all the harm. im sure there are many here that know the difference but the sunscreen industry purposely uses these words to get people to buy and have the false sense of security. its unfortunate but they do it because it sells. the general public can be kind of 'dumb' because they listen to advertisements and dont think for themselves like "how the hell can a cream completely protect me from Nth degree powerful a** sun?".

the people getting skin cancer arent only the ones who live in sun beds. some people who wear sunscreen religiously still get it because they dont see how much theyve burned because the sunscreen doesnt allow them to see it before its too late. it does prevent the look of a burn/redness. just because you dont see the burn doesnt mean the damage isnt being done. thats why there needs to be emphasis on knowing your skin type, having hats/heavily woven coverups just in case you cant get into the shade fast enough.

I loved the new dior foundation but it made me breakout  I tried SK II airtouch and I like it a lot. The color matches my skintone better than any foundation I've ever tried. For comparison, the lightest dior shade is a tiny bit pinker and the SK II yellower but they are very similar. Both give a perfect, flawless finish but dior gave more coverage without looking any heavier. You can get more coverge with SK II by doing two coats, but you have to let it dry in between and its not as fool proof to apply as dior. The airtouch is great for oily skin and the dior better for normal or dry skin, my face stays shine free much longer with the SK II. If your still looking for the perfect foundation I would definitely give this a try, but make sure you get it from somewhere you can return it.
