I've never read one before but I would read yours if you made one :flower:

hmmm...that's very sweet...:flower:
don't give me any ideas...

:innocent:
i guess it would have to be called softgrey in the city... :P

yours looks nice faust...
but i still don't know why anyone would read them...
i understand why people WRITE them...
but i'm not all that interested in reading what someone else randomly thinks about stuff without being able to respond or interact...
seems kind of boring..
especially since most bloggers have little or no experience or credentials in the fashion industry...

it's just some random person's opinion....
who may actually have really bad taste...:ninja:

I understand your concern softie. I think it is the challenge for most of the bloggers. Fortunately I post in another forum often so I got a group of followers who read my articles. I also got requests from my friends to write about certain topics such as shopping for dress shirts or basic black pumps. Those things are simple but people need a little more real life experience. I think Faust has an advantage to get audiance here and I will be so happy if people from TFS start reading my articles as well. It takes time. B)

in general there is a huge trend on blogs, in any given interest, being fashion or modeling, stamps or politics, so fashion blogs are naturally there and they are popular.. so yes, there is a trend, its getting bigger...
but like most of you ...>>>

i rather go on tfs because there are numerous views and ideas on a range of different fashion topics rather than just one or two people's opinions which you see in fashion blogs.
<<<

karma for dsq, zazie, thefashionista, kimkhuu for their view on tFS :flower:
and for DosViolines for bringing this in

good luck to faust, caffeine, oStelios and softgrey on their blogs and under-constraction-blogs :lucky:

interesting article BUT

i am convinced that most fashion journalists read tFS on a regular basis an,d gather a lot of info from here noone really wants to admit it though.
you'd be surprised how many people (sales directors, designers, etc) i have asked if they knew the site and they said yes. some are even registered users

Very true Leyla! Lots and lots of fashion industry people visit tFS, no wonder tons of article featured on websites, important magazines are very tFS inspired..... I often browse in magazines, and the main trends are most of the time the ones we mainly discuss in trend spotting believe it or not....

i was reading a major fashion magazine the other day, and they were speaking of the biggest trend for fall..... and believe it or not... all the trends in there were what we were discussing a while back : back in black, gothic revival, folkloric/ethnic theme..... among others spoken of here.....

actually..
i believe YOU started the new gothic thread AFTER it was written about in several other places already...
fashionista-ta posted bits of all the places it was mentioned BEFORE it was ever on tFS...
and if i am not mistaken...
there was doubt by some tFS-ers as to whether or not this is even a legitimate trend...:flower:

same with the back in black thread...
it was posted AFTER is was announced on style.com...

and you'd have to be blind to miss the folkloric/ethnic theme...
and believe it or not... most fashion editors are not blind...

Blogs have been around for a long time.

I love to read blogs, I enjoy their conversational tone, the product reviews, and in some blogs, it's like getting to read a copy of US Weekly at your own leisure, instead of having to squeeze in all the interesting articles at the supermarket checkout line. The fashion blogs that I read can be about anything - mainstream fashion, celebrity style(time to zone out!), indie designers, asian fashion, as long as they are written with sincerity and wit -without which, I just don't return to that blog anymore :flower:

There are a lot of TFSers who have their own blog, and personally, I find breathoxygen's (pictorial) blog extremely interesting. To add on, some more blogs that I read which belongs to TFSers includes kimair's, rhiannonmars and yes, closettherapy as well.

I admit that I was inspired by closettherapy's blog, which led me to set up my own. It takes effort to maintain one and after the initial euphoria wears off, what else is there to keep on going? There are times when I feel drained, epecially since, I maintain my blog in my spare time and sometimes my job can take a lot out of me. Speaking from personal experience, there are times when I would feel inspired and come up with an opinionated article on general fashion trends, or times when I feel "lazy" and just write a review on popular clothing/makeup items/websites which I own.

Forums, like TFS, have their own unique role to play in the internet, they function as social information exchange networks where there is a huge emphasis on interaction. I believe in posting on a forum with diplomacy and maturity, due to the varied backgrounds that all our members come from, especially from such an encompassing forum like TFS.

I believe that two forms of media are not mutually exclusive.
Instead they serve to complement each other.
Forums - for the exchange of information and views which will eventually evolve or affect your own view on the thread topic.
Blogs, for an unadultered, undiluted view on the article topic. At prima facie, blogs probably fulfill our need for attention and to be heard in cyberspace. It provides you with an exclusive domain all your own, to write/do whatever you want.

Phew, now this was a pretty long post. I hope I made sense :flower:

I'd like to ask those who have fashion blogs a question.:flower:

Why do you feel the need for attention and to be heard in cybersapce? What are your ultimate goals, if there are any? Grab attention from the fashion industry and get hired? You need to spend tons of energy and time to maintain your own sites, but you don't even get paid.

This is a genuine question, not intended to offend anyone.:flower:

You can see my blog by clicking on my signature.

I started it to record my grad year at school, and as sort of a liason until I have time to put together a website proper.

I don't think I'll get famous from it or anything, but much like TFS it offers opportunities to network. When people ask what I do I can send them my url and they can see for themselves (as I get a little tired explaining my collection again and again...)

When I am finished I'll have a diary of my year... as well as a small ready-made audience to present and bounce my ideas off of... it's not a moneymaking venture, or anything else, just something I do for fun... like my sketchbook.

It's basically just a thread all about my life as a fashion student. No personal stuff though... I find diary blogs risible.
Plus it can be a forum, there are comments. On really popular blogs the comments look and sound much like a forum, with conversations...

You're welcome to check it out:flower:

I can't speak for everyone else who blogs, but what made me want to start one was quite simply, I needed something to occupy my time.

There are probably a gazillion blogs out there, yet I wanted to start one to see how good I am at it. I guess it's simply an ego trip, to have a domain that's all your own and having readers - much like publishing an ezine.

I don't have an ultimate goal for my blog - right now it's still very much a hobby. Not getting paid never bothered me, simply because I enjoy what I'm doing! :flower:

I have a blog (www.fashionablekiffen.blogspot.com) as a way to showcase my writing and collect samples in one, easy-to-access spot. I do a lot of freelance work, so this is one of the simplest ways for potential employers to check out my stuff.

And I just like to voice my opinion, especially about fashion - like all of use here do.:innocent:
