Fashion Faux Pas - Past and Present

i saw one today..

its freezing here.. he had a parka with him.. i think he was a tourist..but imagine late 30-40ish man with thinning hair..

wearing a baggy green t shirt...

tucked into his jeans....

in a chanel boutique.

I love the typical american tourist abroad.

Wife wearing a polo shirt tucked into pleated shorts with a camera/fanny pack on. Sunglasses held on with that necklace cord thing. Sneakers with socks pulled half way up the legs..

and her husband

wearing the same.

i was just going to mention the "mom" look. mom jeans, an overlaundered sweatshirt with teddy bears or a holiday scene on it. running shoes. and oh yeah, a fanny pack.

the mom jeans are sometimes replaced with comfy sweatpants.

all of this ina lovely pastel colour scheme.

i especially loved it when my grade school teachers wore holiday themed plastic jewelry. No offense to anyone who did that or has loved ones who did that. I just didn't understand the appeal.

Can I just say holiday sweaters in general?

Heck, one year a relative gave me a holiday vest and I proudly wore it. In the second grade.

Another look that screams "American tourist" is knitwear (like basic merino crewnecks) with sparkly, cute/flowery/swirly appliques. Some sparkle makes it dressier for that casual dinner, I suppose?

sending your kid to school in brand new jeans that are unwashed...and having the principal call you to come get her because her hands are turning blue and they think she's sick.

Bwaaah!

Okay, true confession: I made a pair of bluejeans for myself a couple of years ago from dark indigo denim. Though I pre-washed the bolt of fabric, unbeknownst to me, they would continue to bleed for several more washings. The first day I wore these jeans, I rode my bicycle to work, as is my custom, and got a little bit sweaty. Later, I went to the Ladies' Room, and discovered that I was stained blue from the waist down. My waist, hips, underpants, and legs were all dyed indigo from the new fabric and sweat! It was dreadful. Also, the underpants I'd been wearing had once had a pretty china-blue paisley pattern on them, but that was obliterated by the indigo dye disaster. Those underpants are still blue. Luckily, the rest of me no longer is!

I had these funny tennis skirts a long time ago...Used to wear them all the time in elementary school hahaha. In the front it was pleated, but in the back they were shorts...

The biggest fashion faux pas you've ever committed?

i'm pretty much a newbie here, so i'm not too sure if anyone has posted this before..

i'm sure everyone here is a fashionista in their own right. =) but even the most stylish of people do have occasional blunders.. so what's the biggest fashion faux pas you've ever committed?

mine was at a party quite a long time back, when i wore an overly baggy mini dress and was trying for an out-of-bed look, complete with tousled hair and punk-ish eye makeup. in retrospect, i realised i looked like i was wasted! worse still, the dress made me seem as if i'd just tumbled into the party in my PJs. that was so not a good look! :ninja:

wonder what category this falls into :P

back to the subject, I once tucked my jeans into my shoes, ew... and it didn't look good.
