While doing some research for my blog, I noticed that a lot of prints and patterns as well as shapes from designer collections can be found in furniture/decor and vice versa. Please move if this is the wrong forum.

Some examples:

Andrew Gn Spring 2008; Ikea

Matthew Williamson Spring 2007; Ikea

Very interesting observation, satin chic
At first I was thinking they transferred the prints to furniture in their own line, because some designers have separate lines for furniture (ie. Marni creates rugs w/ their prints)
But I see in your posts that the furniture and fashion labels are separate :o

The first two are quite similar, but the last is too abstract to make a connection
I think some designers revive old prints, so it's normal to see them in other applications (like when Miuccia was doing an overall retro vibe in Miu Miu collections-- a lot of her prints are copies but maybe using new colours)

this is interesting...

i think i need to see some more examples of it before I'm entirely convinced of an actual connection and not just coincidence that the patterns are so similar...

i wonder which ones would have been inspired by the other...

i'm doing a home styling class at f.i.t and this is normal, for fashion to trickle down into furniture/ decor etc. apparently there are skulls on plate sets now.

i feel like i saw plates with skulls when i was in neiman marcus..
more chic than scary..
which is quite an accomplishment considering you probably don't want to be looking at skulls while eating :p

I'm sure the floral trend this spring will fit well into home furnishings.

satinchic, thanks for those pictures, great observation...what a neat magazine layout that would make with both together.

Monochrome Trend from Runway to Home Styling

hi, i've heard that monochrome is forecasted as a huge trend in interior design for 2008. it's obvious for fashion, as so many fashion spreads are doing the monochrome look. can anyone help me with pictures of monochrome rooms?
I'd really appreciate it!
thanks :)

Fringe in interiors...

White room divider

A fringe curtain makes the perfect room divider. This Habitat curtain unobtrusively defines a contemporary white dressing area which has an eye-catching Greenwich Village chair, sleek sideboard from Poliform and accessories including a mannequin head with a hat, and Steinberg & Tolkein vintage gloves. A ceiling tile from Estilo Home makes a dramatic piece of art, and a fluffy Stepevi rug adds luxurious texture.

glad you like it, *happiness*
must admit that was the first thing that drew me to that picture too
i went on the Greenwich Village website --unfortunately the chair seems to be sold out. i wish i knew who the designer was..

i love the whitewashed layout of the interior anyhow!

Snakeskin

the thread for Snakeskin S/S 08 in Trendspotting
--you'll see some shoes , clothes in this skin
but also you'll see it as -prints- on dresses...

i found this post on blog.2modern
In recent years, the trend in exotic-skins has seen the likes of alligator and crocodile being used in high fashion accessories. This fall, the hottest skin, in the luxury market, is Python. A native of Southeast Asia, it is known for its variations in color and scale and its supple feel. Some designers prefer the skin of the Anaconda, native to the swamps of South America, since it has a more regular-sized, shinny scale. Either way, its hard to miss the use of snake skin in the apparel, accesories and home markets.

cool gius! :woot:

i wonder what one would use the python tape for?
concealing/taping down cords or wires that run across the wall or the floor perhaps? :p
that would certainly cause some people to do a double take

I was just mentioning in another thread that Elle Decor does this, and gius sent me here ... :flower:
