Favorite Architect or Building

I love Oscar's work as well. All these buildings were designed by him, actually I think all the credits should go to the enginners who were able to build them.

The first pic is from baixaki, the cathedral from outside. The other ones were taken by me from the Itamaraty Palace, beautiful view.

Have you guys seen Niemeyer's early sketches of the National Congress?
i only saw it during a lecture and it's interesting or how few lines it was :D

just a few strokes and it has already outlined the basic principles of his concept.

I have to agree with guys on previous page about The Hundertwasser House in Vienna.Such an extrodinary building.I was standing in front of it and I was just overwhealmed:crush:

If you like modern architecture, you will LOVE Valencia in Spain. You will probably even love it if you don't have a passion for modern architecture. It's fascinating. Apart from the architecture, the city has a great historic centre and the shopping+food is fantastic too! The architect is Santiago Calatrava.

I like Tadao Ando's architecture because it's simlple, modern, light, serene. It's simply Tadao Ando. We had really interesting class back @ college.

Here is photo from utidesigner, it is waterfall bar in Tokyo:

very cool and sort of storybook...
almost literally i should say

looks like a book shelf :p

i wonder if it is real as well gius...
where are the doors and windows, right?

it would be funny if they really were only books

me mistaking books for buildings :ninja:

about the windows and doors that is a great point
but what i was thinking was this might be "brutalist" architecture. it's a movement where they use really rough or uninviting materials to create a building. another point was that the doors and windows were away from plain view from the street. not sure what the reasoning was...
i think it starts in Russia but i was surprised to see so many buildings like this in Vancouver :o they are really strange and ominous looking structures. i moved to a new apartment and finding more buildings like this lately. kind of like factories or giant blocks of nothingness made of cold steel or whatever... I saw a really narrow steel "block" on the way home yesterday (only maybe 7-8 feet high?), there were all these other very shiny silver steel pipes sticking out of the ground all around it.. and only when I got around it, to the very "back" of the building, i found a floor-to-ceiling glass window and there was an office or helpdesk inside... the whole thing was in a garden with a tiny playground.

here's our main hospital somewhat in front of my house

The pictures don't tell the truth ^_^
i find them weirder up close in real life.. it's like a parking lot.. just this extremely large and tall and wide drab looking box made of grey corrugated cardboard, taking up several blocks, and covered with squares (windows) all around.. doesn't seem to have blinds or curtains either. it's just plain black
