I have jsut started taking 4 fish oil tablets a day as prescribed by my doctor (as i was always feeling tired and also have always had very dry skin).....im a little nervous to take so much 'oil' everyday

those taking oil supplements, what have you noticed ? ive heard there is lots of benefits, but is there any down sides ? (ie kilos etc) ..its been 12 days and i am feeling more energished :flower:

Omega 3's are excellent for you. Another way you can incorporate them into your diet is to eat nuts, as well. :flower:

I used to take capsules, but never noticed a difference. They weren't prescribed by my doctor, but it is now a known fact that Omega 3's (fish oil) are super for your skin.

Really, those capsules don't contain that much oil...

But what's really interesting here is that these fats are very, very good for you. They actually help keep your metabolism going and helps you get rid of "bad" fats, besides the fact that they're important for hair and skin. It's not like you can drink a pint of oil a day without gaining weight, but a few capsules are fine! :P :flower:

I take Complete EFA from Trader Joe's which has Flaxseed, Borage Seed, and Fish Oils in it.
I could be crazy, but I think it has helped improve the look and feel of my skin.

I have never heard of EFAs causing weight gain. Bad Fats and Oils that cause weight gain and health problems are Hydrogenated fats, trans fats, cotton seed oil, peanut oil, margarine. So I think you will be safe from weight gain caused by the EFA!

^ Actually, EFA do contain calories... I took capsules that each had 10 calories in them... that's why nuts are so high in calories, there are many in these acids, though they're "good" calories, if you will.

Yeah, I hear your intake of fats should be 1:1 for omega 6 and omega 3

Sources of omega 3:
flax seed
fish oil
cod liver oil (when you dont get enough sun, it has vitamin D)
walnuts
sunflower seeds
fish...
and the newest one i have discovered: krill oil

I heard the best brand for oil is Carlson's

All oils contain a lot of calories precisely because they are oils. The interesting thing is how the body reacts to them...

I just started taking Ultimate Omega from Whole foods
and its improved the Over all look of my skin.

I needed to do something about my skin, it was out of control!
So I read Dr. Perricone's Book..the Acne Prescription and found out about the effects of Omega 3, Flaxseed and Borage oil for the Skin.

I had heard flax oil is not the best for the body as some people can't process it well. But flax seed is fine

Omega oils are great for skin, depression and general all round health. While they have calories they are well used by the body. One thing to keep in mind with fish oils is the level of mercury in some processed fish. Try to find organic if possible.

I'm suprised that you were instructed to take 4 oil capsules by your doctor! I have a mild case of ezcema & I heard that fish oil is really good to take for improving the skin etc, but do you think I should up my doseage? Like take it before each meal? Is one a day not enough? tia!

Make sure you're taking a brand that's mercury free. Research it if it doesn't say it on the bottle. There are a lot of cheaper brands that contain high levels of mercury because of the way the fish is processed.

I've been taking one complete EFA pill a day for awhile, and haven't really noticed anything, though I'm not continuing my downward slide either. Maybe I'll up it to 2-3 times a day.

And yeah, you should always take them with a meal that contains a little fat, for the best absorption.

yeah i take four 'large' but in about three months i may be able to go down to two - u should take half the dosage in the morning and half at night...

i tihnk four is a lot to but i think i really need it, also im allergic to nuts so that rules that out ... missbliss, maybe try up your dosage just to see how you feel...

i was also told the first two weeks (when taking a bigger dose) can be a little shock for the body as it starts to try and get the balance right - so people can get a bit unsettled at the begining (so im told) but personally i felt fine ... !

i have read that also OMEGA 6 is very good for body, and you find it in the fish called salmon

i take the liquid version Omega 3679+ because i can't swallow pills/capsules.
i didnt take it regularly coz i really cant handle the texture but it did help with my dry skin.

^ thankyou everyone! i'm definitely gonna try & up my doseage slowly & see how it works for me.

Someone told me yesterday that it helps with MEMORY !

^ Yep. Fish isn't called brain-food for nothing...

In Iceland it seems most people drink fish oil called "Lysí" oil. In my boyfriends family everyone has their own bottle and they just drink from it once a day. :yuk: I tried it...it's not that bad really. :ninja: Apparently it is very good for you though, Icelandic people have some of the longest life expectancies in the world, and they eat a lot of fish so... :innocent:
