England wives score victory in the designer shops

They took the field in an attacking formation and never looked like wilting in the heat.

With electrifying pace and clearly benefiting from hours of training back home, they were unrelenting in pursuit of their goal.
If there was a World Cup for designer shopping, the WAGs (the England team wives and girlfriends) would be clear favourites.
In the clothes shops of Baden-Baden yesterday, a four-girl strike force spent £4,000 in just under an hour.
Carly Zucker, Lisa Roughhead, Michaela Henderson-Thyne and Vanessa Perroncel (partners of Joe Cole, Michael Carrick, Stuart Downing and Wayne Bridge respectively) tore through the town's upmarket mall, Monica Scholz, and emerged victorious - laden with Gucci, Prada and D Squared T-shirts, shirts and shoes.
Next stop was the sunglasses boutique, Albert, where each of them invested in a new pair of shades costing around £500 per pair.
Not quite finished, the girls popped into a local hair accessory store where they purchased a selection of cheap and cheerful hairpieces and costume jewellery.
Elsewhere, in an outstanding solo effort, Wayne Rooney's fiancÈe, Coleen McLoughlin dispensed with over £300 in the space of 10 minutes.
Dressed for comfort and practicality in three-quarter length denim shorts, a white vest top and a thick gipsy-style belt, she homed in on the shoe store with all the vigour her other half does on goal and came away with two pairs of designer heels - Gucci and Christian Dior - and two Dolce and Gabbana blouses.
Needless to say, they all seemed over the moon with their purchases.
Alex Curran, who is engaged to England midfielder Steven Gerrard, was also in the thick of the action, though she appeared to be content with her wardrobe.
Instead she popped into a mobile phone shop and emerged with a new handset.
The 23-year-old model then popped into a McDonald's for sustenance.
Her month-old daughter, Lexie, appeared to find the expedition a little tiresome and remained hidden beneath a giant white sun shield on her designer buggy.
The shopping spree came as the England squad enjoyed their second consecutive day off.
Players including Rio Ferdinand, Sol Campbell and Peter Crouch soaked up the sun in outdoor cafes across Baden-Baden.
Under a new rule brought in by coach Sven Goran Eriksson, players have been placed under a strict midnight curfew.
While they are allowed to socialise during their time off, they must be in bed before the clock strikes 12.

They have already shown they can party for England and shop till they drop.
And yesterday the wives and girlfriends of our nation's soccer stars demonstrated an ability to showcase swimwear in real style.
The WAGs - as they are now called - donned designer shades and bikinis to parade around their hotel pool.


Frank Lampard's Spanish fiancee Elen Rives showed how she has managed to keep a tight formation since giving birth to their daughter Luna.
Also present at the pool was Carly Zucker, girlfriend of Joe Cole, along with Lisa Roughhead and Michaela Henderson-Thynne (partners of Michael Carrick and Stewart Downing respectively).
These WAGs appear to have formed their own clique at the luxurious Brenner's Park Hotel in Baden-Baden. It is one of several which have formed since the WAGs arrived last week.
Miss Zucker, a personal trainer, has gathered around her a team of fellow fitness fanatics who emerge from their rooms each morning at 7.30 for a brisk jog before breakfast. A separate group is headed by Wayne Rooney's fiancee Coleen McLoughlin and her fellow Liverpudlian Alex Curran, mother of Steven Gerrard's daughter Lexie.
Then there is Victoria Beckham, who seems to have taken Ashley Cole's girlfriend Cheryl Tweedy under her wing. The pair tend to dine together, sitting apart from the others.
Sven Goran Eriksson's partner Nancy Dell'Olio, meanwhile, is doing her own thing. An onlooker said: "Nancy is a bit of a mother-hen figure but she does-n't seem to spend much time with any of the other girls. She comes across as a bit of a loner."
