Nicolas Ghesquière's First Vuitton Ads to Boast Top Photography Talent
THREE’S COMPANY: Word has it Nicolas Ghesquière’s first fashion campaign for Louis Vuitton will break the mold as he has tapped not one, but three leading photographers. It is understood the advertising will somehow blend images shot by Bruce Weber, Annie Leibovitz and Juergen Teller.
The faces of the campaign are familiar to Ghesquière’s universe and include the actress Charlotte Gainsbourg, as first reported in WWD Collections magazine on April 14, and models Liya Kebede and Freja Beha Erichsen, both of whom walked in Ghesquière’s debut Vuitton show for fall 2014.
Previously, Steven Meisel had lensed Vuitton’s fashion spots under Marc Jacobs, who stepped down as creative director last year to focus on his signature brand and prepare the company for a public offering.
vogue.comOn this day, Vogue.com subjects wander onto the set in Skyline Studios in Tribeca, where they sit and share a bit about their day and their lives. Tillett Wright is a fast portraitist—photographing her subjects in just two seconds (Daria Werbowy and Freja Beha Erichsen laugh when someone suggests she’s quicker than rapid-fire shooter Patrick Demarchelier—and they would know) against a matte black backdrop in daylight. It’s a minimal setup with maximum impact. Tillett Wright’s ultimate goal is to lay her 10,000 portraits out on the mall in Washington, D. C., in a kind of activist-meets-art installation on a grand scale.
