French New Wave is a termed coined for French movies of the 60s, the ones that started new trends (seen a lot in Wes Anderson, Stanley Kubrick films.) They also had a lot of great fashion

I think this thread is just wonderful, because i so adore these old french movies. They have such a good sense of style and soul, that it takes me away somewhere...where i just imagine myself being out there. Somewhere lost in the 60's, drinkink wine and smoking one cigarette after anoter. And wearing a beret ofcourse. I love it.
I would love to see more pictures.

moved...
please resize some of the images so that they do not completely destroy the page format...
i will have to go back now and delete all those that are too large...:ermm:...

you can then re-post in the appropriate size...
thx...

i don't want to sound like a whippersnapper  but la dolce vita or blowup can't actually be considered as french new wave, can they?

some film stills from godard's weekend:

I'm so glad someone started this thread as I've been OBSESSED with the french new wave all spring.. Such fantastic movies and people

Oh I wish I coulld find Belle De Jour Screencaps. AMAZING fashion movie!

Wow Thanks Stella Mare. Deneuve looked so gorgeous in that film.

it misses the little YSL black dress deneuve is wearing in this movie.
this thread is wonderful but why is there italian movies in a FRENCH new wave thread? la dolce vita is italian right?
(i'll post more of Le Mepris with BB...)

Thanks a lot for the thread!! Fantastic pics!
I've been lately quite obsessed about the look in those films, I cut my hair shorter (à la Anna Karina)

The last pic of Catherine Deneuve in that coat is gorgeous!!

I    French New Wave. My username is in homage to fave actress Anna Karina. Her and Godard were a match made in Cinema Heaven!
And I don't think there was a sexier man than Jean Paul Belmondo in Breathless:wub: Although Jean Pierre Leaud comes a close second.....oh, and Alain Delon...oh merde, I love them all!:D

The usual actors and actresses have been featured in this thread, but I find myself captivated by people with literally just walk-on parts in these films. Wish I could find pics of them, but alas..I can't.:(

I love the young girl in Breathless who stops Michel on the street with a petition and he says he hates the youth and she pulls a face.

And Marie Dubois (who appeared briefly in Jules et Jim) as the fabulous Therese. What energy she radiated for a few brief moments on screen!

Here are clips of wonderful Karina dancing in Godard films

This is from Bande a Part with the famous dance sequence in the cafe http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6pOXjQLh7Y&mode=related&search=

Here she is in Vivre Sa Vie dancing round the pool table http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlBS3PmPfaI&mode=related&search=

I'm glad you see the resemblance too. I thought I was going crazy!
Jean Pierre Leaud is best in Truffaut's films. He was plucked from obscurity when he starred in "The 400 blows" at the tender age of 15. You should see the other films he made with Truffaut like Stolen Kisses and Bed and Board. It's very silly but charming too.
Masculin Feminin is a Godard film, not the best one to see first if you're not use to his style (ps. it doesn't star Jane Birkin, but Francoise Hardy and Brigitte Bardot make cameo appearances:woot: )

Here's a sneak at some of his films

The 400 blows : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Cb9lLaTevQ&mode=related&search=

From the same film, Leaud literally improvised in this memorable scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HX808UtJq90&mode=related&search=

Trailer of Stolen Kisses (the pic is a bit fuzzy): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRTkjyHT928&mode=related&search=

Brilliant look at Masculin, Feminin (love the song playing): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2ihlz_joKo

Alain Delon gets my vote for the hottest man ever.

But Anna Karina is my love.
