Frumpy geekiness is height of Tokyo cool - IHT Article

i have recently also read an article in the ny times about japanese boys who stay in their rooms for many years...
i will try to post this if i can find it again...
i wonder how true this is as well...
:huh::unsure:

i think, you mean hikikomori? i read about them as well some years ago, it seems to be a serious problem in japan as even the ministry of health is dealing with it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hikikomori

that's a far more extreme and profound way to cope with too much pressure than just "not trying" (as it's said in the article about jyaajii, and anti-fashion in general.)

I don't know if that image is a completely accurate example, but in women's fashion at least brands like Guess has had varying jackets like that for the past 7 yeard or so. It just looks like a track type jacket to me.

Thanks for the article nqth and for your insight, runner...looks like there's hope for a socially inept geek like me yet!!! :woot:

btw Melisande, I was just wondering: What is your opinion on this recent phenomenon?

I've always had a bit of a thing for geek-chic. The quiet boy with dark features and glasses always gets me..:blush:
