Steampunk - NY Times article

I wouldn't buy into the whole look/lifestyle, but I do like some of the individual pieces (leather chest-straps or whatever they're called and long gloves for example) and influences.

Makes me want to watch League of the Extrodinary Gentelmen

my goodness, this look is amazing. i am completely enthralled.

note to self: must search for some amazing goggles.

Im running into examples of Steampunk everywhere now. Or maybe Im just more aware of it. The more I see..the more I love it.

I was on a site for BJDs and Dollfies recently and saw a whole thing devoted to the dolls in Steampunk get ups. Very cool

Interesting trend. Tomorrow is yesterday, the outdated is reborn.

If any designers around NYC are working on this stuff, I'd like to collaborate.

Tomorrow is yesterday! Good definition for SteamPunk trend .

I love elements of steampunk like the computers and the hats and stuff like that but I think it is tough to pull of the entire look.

That wooden laptop left me speechless. I love this look, but to make it more "wearable" I feel like you'd have to do it on a subtle basis where only people who really know steampunk could recognize the references.

Yes, to create something just because it is of a specific genre seems silly. Take the elements you like and make them sing with your own style.

I think that Daphne Guinness sometimes unknowingly dresses a bit steampunk. Lots of Victorian-style collars, ruffles, hats, suits, all mixed with futuristic details such as metallics.

Yes, Victorian with a touch of Jules Verne... avoid the goth. We are civilized people, not barbarians.

I enjoy the mood of steampunk and the ideas behind it as far as fashion inspiration goes. Not into victorian/metal/goth amalgams that look like lame hot topic accessories. There's definitely a relevance to all of this but the cited examples definitely ain't it.

I'm more into a vision of Ghesquire mixed with Westwood...something a bit smarter than a corset and bad make up.

Those glasses are all over the internet. Look up "vintage brass goggles". A good pair will have the green glass-panels on the sides. Some of them are rather pricey, but you can find them rather cheap if you really look. :)

I'm sort of confused, but very very intrigued. That laptop is amazing. I'm thinking Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Remember that movie? With Jude Law, Angelina Jolie, and Gwyneth Paltrow? This gives me a reason to see it again. And I also want to see League of Extraordinary Gentlemen again as well.
