Frye Boots

Here's a funny story about my incompetence. Basically shopbop doesn't list the shaft height of the boots on their site, and at $198 I assumed what they had pictured was the 8R, just that they were charging $10 more than everyone else for them. Well long story short, after I bought the 8R I realized, in fact, shopbop carry the 12R and that was the the size I was after!

However! After measuring, I think the 8R is what I want afterall because I'm quite short it will still come up to about mid-calf on me

go for the engineer! I'm wanting one myself though I'm not sure if they'll suit me. They might be too tough looking boots on me..are they the same as the victoria slouch boots only shorter? does anyone know if they run true to size?

It looks like the smallest Frye's come in, is a 5.5. The engineer 8R is also (I believe) the shortest shaft height. I should have mine in hand tomorrow and can tell you how they fit and how the shaft height looks on someone shorter. From what I hear of the fit, it's a wee bit roomy. Depends if you'll wear socks or not. I personally prefer the engineer to the square toe of the harness.

Is there anyone here who either owns or has tried on both the Campus 14L and the Maxine Campus Frye boots?? Aside from the heel height, I'm wondering how different they are. When I tried the 14Ls they were a lot stiffer than I liked, so I'm thinking of trying the Maxines, but not sure...

I need some help deciding which color to get these boots in:

The brown ones are much more beautiful, it's a really rich cognac shade that I just find stunning. However, the last thing I need are brown boots, whereas I really need black boots, I don't have any heeled black boots.

My wardrobe is mainly blacks, greys, taupes, some creams, and I pretty much only wear jeans so these aren't boots to be seen with skirts and dresses and tights or anything like that. I do like the look of black clothes and brown shoes/boots, so that's not the issue, it's just that I have two other brown boot options.

Should I go ahead and get the black since that's what I really need? Or are the browns that much superior that I have to get them? I think the blacks would be great, and I geniunely want to start wearing more black shoes since I don't really, but I'm worried that I'm talking myself into them whereas the browns are what my heart pines for.

Such drama over shoes, opinions appreciated!

I like the look of Frye boots but I haven't tried them yet. At one time I had a pair of frye sandals, they hurt my feet so bad that I sold them after wearing them only twice. Do you feel the boots are comfortable or are they uncomfortable but look so good that you wear them anyway?

Well, I have three pairs now-- the paige tall riding boots, the short dorados, and the paige buckle short boots... They're all pretty comfortable for me. I can walk miles in the riding boots without my feet hurting at all. On the other hand, I probably wouldn't walk miles in the short dorados, because the heel does slip a little when I walk. But I do wear them all day at work without them hurting my feet.

That being said, I've never tried on a pair of Frye sandals, so I'm not sure if it was just your fit or if it was the sandals themselves...

pucci - I just got my engineers and I think if you are definitely a 5, the 5.5 will be too big for you (unless you wear very thick socks) as I'm a 6.5/7, and I got the 7's and they are definitely quite roomy. That said, I am loving them. I wore them for the first time to Ikea (probably a mistake) and they rubbed against my jeans which in turn rubbed against my skin which really hurt, but I think once I break them in (and wear socks) I should be fine.

they're called the liv bootie, but I got them last winter so I don't think they're around much anymore.

Thanks for the info Meg, I thought they would be a little big..most winter boots seem to be..... I am still waiting for a vintage pair to be sent to me from ebay

I must get some Fryes. It's a pitty they're not easy to find here in Australia. Unless, anyone knows of an Aussie stockist I haven't found yet??

I'm dying to get a pair the paige cuff boots in grey. If I'm going to spend that much $$, do you think I should play it safe and get black or brown instead? Please advise
I can only find the grey ones at Urban and they're $400.

re: comfort (I don't know whether anyone has mentioned this or not)
fryes can be a bummer to break in, for the first 4 times I wore my engineer my entire heels were one big blister
but trust, it's worth it. Once they mold to your feet, comfort like nothing else.
