Game of Thrones

I absolutely adore this show, but did anyone else think the last episode was borderline terrible?? I'm not sure what happened to the writing, but instead of lifting really great lines from the book (ex: when Cat tells Stannis and Renly that they both call themselves kings, yet let the kingdom bleed, etc) they gave characters lines that made them seem .. well, kind of silly and inconsistent (i.e. Cat telling the two that she'd knock their heads together if they were her sons. I mean, why would she say something like that when she's there to negotiate with Renly?) And Dany's scene whining and screaming like a spoiled child in front of Qarth was just painful :(

Actually, that quote is straight from A Clash of Kings, chapter 33. However, I do agree that the writing could improve and in some cases be more faithful to the original book, especially concerning the direction some characters are taking... Petyr Baelish, for example. His scene with Cersei back in the first episode - despite one of the best in the entire episode - was so out of character; he never would've confronted her like that.

Wow, I didn't remember the quote at all - thanks for confirming that it was in the book :flower: (although I still don't get the logic behind her saying something like that - it just seems counter intuitive).

And I agree with you about that scene with Littlefinger and Cersei - I guess they're trying to make things more dynamic by adding scenes (most of which are pretty good, that one being one of the best) but I hope they don't take too many liberties with the characters. The first series was excellent and I'm just afraid that the second will go down hill if they don't keep the writing to the same standards

The show keeps getting better and better :)
I´m in awe of Arya, I love this character! the only thing missing last night was Robb... and maybe someone slapping Joffrey LOL

Daenerys was very pretty in this chapter , great scene between her and Sir Jorah, his words betrayed him and confirmed what Xaro Shoan told her.

That kid Joffrey...omg...I don't think that there is anyone who makes me more angry like he does..but scenes when Tirion slaps him are pricless :)

I loved scenes with John and Ygritte, they would make such a cute couple  Will they maybe be together? I know that John can't be with women, but maybe something happens?:brows:

spoiler (so if you don't want to know): yeah, they'll be together, from what i've read. :flower:

I am finally all caught up on season 2. Loved episode 6!!! The story is soooo good right now! Can't wait for the next episode! :woot:

I know I'm totally late to the Game of Thrones fandom (but in my defense I don't have HBO so I had to wait till it was on dvd to watch the show), I'm almost done with season 1, and it's SO good! Probably four of my favorite characters are... Arya, Jon Snow, Daenerys, and Tyrion. All of them seem like complex, interesting characters. One thing I was hoping someone could clarify for me is the how long Robert has been king for? And before that, how long was the Mad King ruler of the kingdom? I'm a bit confused to the timeline of things. Thanks. :flower:

Robert has been king for about 15 years when the series begins. The Mad King's reign was for about 21 ( I'm not to sure about this ) but the Targaryen's have ruled for about 300 years.

I love this show, I'm far behind in season two, since I don't have HBO either. I hope I can find it soon.

^Ahh.... okay. Both heelscatchfire and wickedcrazyness thanks for clearing this up for me. :flower: It makes it so much easier to know a timeline of things when trying to understand everything. It gives it more perspective. One more question... is it known how long of a time period that the seven kingdoms have existed? As in, what other family houses have ruled before the Targaryens. Thanks. One of the reasons why I love this show is because the politics at play and all the little details and story-lines. It's quite complex!

^Ok, I'm going to go by what I know from the books.

-Robert Baratheon was crowned King of the Seven Kingdoms after winning the War of the Usurper. His reign was from 283AL until 298AL.
-Aerys II Targaryen (The Mad King) was the seventeenth and final king of the Targaryen dynasty to sit on the Iron Throne. He ruled from 262AL to 283 AL.

I hope this helps and doesn't confuse you more!!!

For how long the Seven Kingdoms have existed and info about ruling families, go here...

Scroll down to the part with the heading "History". It has the information you want.

It's pretty accurate and will save me from making a mess explaining it. ;)

^Thanks so much! That cleared up a lot of questions I had. And definitely saved you the trouble of trying to explain it... It would have been really difficult to explain.

am i the only one hating ygritte?? she's really annoying... but i love rose leslie, she was one of my fav characters at downton abbey in season 1 :) and i just realized that jorah is richard carlisle at downton!!

btw, i'm really confused on what happened in the last scene! i dont want to believe it :(

^I think they´re the orphans that were living on the farm. Theon can´t seem weak in front of Winterfell´s people so he lied.

I finally finished the first season! It was so, so good! But now I'm trying to find a way to watch the second season... I need to know what happens. One thing I love about GoT is all the actors in it... it's almost like the who's-who of acting. I've spotted so many people from other movies/tv shows that I love (especially Joe Dempsie, Chris from Skins. I can't wait to see him in season 2!). ^_^

Also, have you guys seen this tumblr dedicated to the style of Game of Thrones? I think it's all sorts of awesome. The person who runs it also includes clothes from past fashion seasons and lists what characters they think would wear it.
