Gemma Chan (born 29 November 1982) is a British film, television, and theatre actress and former fashion model. She portrays Charlotte in season four of the Showtime and ITV2 series Secret Diary of a Call Girl; Ruth in Channel 4's Fresh Meat; Mia Bennett in the BBC's Doctor Who "The Waters of Mars" and Soo Lin in Sherlock. She also appeared in Exam and Paramount Pictures' action-thriller Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. She stars in Humans, an AMC/Channel 4 science-fiction drama, which premiered in June 2015. Series Two aired in 2016 and Series Three in 2018. She portrays Astrid Leong Teo in Jon M. Chu's 2018 film Crazy Rich Asians, and will play Minn-Erva in the 2019 Marvel Studios film Captain Marvel.

Crazy Rich Asians Star Gemma Chan Champions Asian Fashion Talent—and the New Fall Florals

When we last spoke to Crazy Rich Asians star Gemma Chan about her personal wardrobe for the hit film’s junket, she relayed that she wanted to highlight and promote Asian design talent. Earlier today, while promoting the film alongside the rest of the cast in London, she did exactly that in a fanciful floral frock by Phillip Lim.

The dress featured a mashup of floral motifs: the bust and bodice were covered with colorful, painterly blooms, while a side panel focused on blue roses. Micro-buds peppered the hem, while chain-fringe detailing added an edgy twist which echoed in Chan's metallic strappy sandals. But her oversize Audrey Hepburn-esque shades really upped the Astrid quotient.
