Givenchy Menswear F/W 2023.24 Paris

There's nothing to see.

LOL at all that layering to give us a poor, run of the mill silhouette. Whew child... No one will remember this.

If you're going to do those furs, might as well go ahead and give us full drama but he is giving us nothing. I guess the good thing is that he is already doing the palette cleansing for the brand. A new designer can just hop right in with their vision and direction.

Hopefully they have already completed the search and are just waiting for his contract to run out. It's so inoffensive that it doesn't deserve a strong response from anyone really.

Not a Matthew Williams fan but this collection is slightly toned down, less bling « LOOK AT ME » and that makes me appreciate some parts of it.

I like the rework of the Carhartt pants turned into skirts. Also he should use less Dolce & Gabbana models… funny he says he comes from skate culture…because I can’t feel it in his castings.

givenchy is lost... totally 0 identity in this collection. Can they just let stefano pilati do his streetwear project in givenchy? instead of whatever this is

Absolutely baited by those first 4 looks which were probably the best things he's done for his menswear at Givenchy. Then we were back at square one with the terrible rapper/streetwear garbage.

I will admit that the soundtrack by Bakar was amazing though.

Review rom Fashionnetwork ( I translated it online) :

Matthew Williams' vision of street chic isn't much more consistent. He shows some great wide-leg pants in past leather, worn over thick-soled tractor-tire boots, THE shoe of the season. But associating his pants with oversized shorts, hoodies and wool tank tops gives a result a little too much. It's hard to see who would want to buy a bunch of expensive pieces from a Parisian fashion house as expensive as Givenchy, only to look like an unemployed New York City courier.

Matthew Williams was preceded by some pretty talented designers, and even some exceptional geniuses: John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, Julien Macdonald, Riccardo Tisci and Clare Waight Keller. But all of them had their own radically different vision of fashion, which ultimately gives the Givenchy brand a little schizophrenic edge.
In fact, 27 years after the retirement of the great Hubert de Givenchy, it is hard to define the house. What is its DNA? From this collection, it has been generally confused with Riccardo Tisci's, perhaps because the latter's reign has been the longest.

But the end result is a rather unbalanced mix of streetwear, sexy, pouty faces and sophistication that sounds fake. Not really Hubert's style.

A recent student made a collection that had a similar oeuvre to this. Lazy hyper masc straight boy with the biggest himbo/dudebro/hypebeast energy and whiffed of Lynx body spray and over priced after shave that frankly should have dropped out for being a waste of space, time and resources. But the lecturer had the hots for him in some weird way and was oddly protective over his work. This reminds me of this.

Burn it. Sacrifice it. Repent it.

If they keep going this way, I don't think it's going to sell. And we literally gave up Clare for this? He is definitely not capable to utilise the atelier.

Can this please be his last menswear collection for Givenchy please!! It’s really an insult to the geniuses of the past. He has no substance, he has no point of view, the brand deserves a better designer!! With any hope this will be the end of his stint!!

He should go for a loooong vacation. It is shocking to see such untalented hipster dheing a major house in Paris. I feel bad for him - he’s obviously struggling (ok gets a HUGE paycheck for it so not sorry for him),
But whoever hired him needs to get fired too.

Claire was a little more talented but no life to it. This guy is a whole new low for fashion

Decent all-black opening looks and then it was all downhill from there. There's a way to do deshabille or take unorthodox combinations, and this is just not it, sad to think this is what the label has come to.

Worst of the season for me. I even watched this live, because this trainwreck of a tenure is kinda entertaining and I wanted to see if he repeated the failure of his last womenswear. If anything, it’s even more terrifying.

Skid Row ex-cons rob a thrift-store and pile it on as a means of covering themselves from the bitter cold. It’s depressing. The fact that they carry the Givenchy label just compounds the sadness.

The brand is dead since Ricardo left. I miss his era where I wanted to wear every single outfit, now it's so boring and sad.
