Givenchy Pre-Fall 2022 Paris

the womenswear is decent, clean and straightforward without any gimmicks. Unlike the menswear which is tragic. It's so banal and unimaginative which is sad come from a menswear designer.

But the clock is ticking for Mr. Williams, none of his accessories, bags or shoes are creating any kind of momentum.

But I do looking forward for his Couture debut in July, because I already know it's gonna be messy.

Ready for the couture reactions, it’s going to be fun. Definitely more resolved than his previous effort. The menswear I agree is tragic, which is ironic because they desperately want the streetwear crowd back.

They really should make him work, another change of creative can turn really bad for them. The cheap logo merch I see in stores for years now are tragic and devaluing the brand.

Boring, unimaginative, hype-beasty, and with a veneer of cheapness: this is what Givenchy has become under Williams' direction. And whilst the womenswear has improved (slightly) to be more soft and feminine than his previous proposition, it still can't compare to Clare Waight Keller's vision for womenswear.

Unfortunately it seems he is not creative enough to sustain a Maison like Givenchy, which needs new ideas, new stories, new silhouettes, etc, constantly.

It would be interesting to see someone like Daniel Lee take over Givenchy and make it more modern/sophisticated and get rid of all those obnoxious branding and logo elements, which as Kimihiro wrote, has ruined the prestige of the brand.

I feel that Matthew is sort of trying to find a compromise between Tisci's gothic hip-hop Givenchy and Wright-Keller's classical Givenchy. Some of the womenswear looked like Courrèges x Saint Laurent, but it's still sensual and interesting. His menswear is commercial at best. Like at his label Alyx, it lacks the effortless cool of most streetwear brands, but the energy of the designs isn't up to par to traditional menswear. While the trendy menswear was the reason for the label's increasing popularity, Matthew's design language is based on his view on womenswear. I hope my shows men's and women's Givenchy separately next year, to allow his stronger ideas to shine.
