Goldfrapp honour over Lennon film

By Damian Jones
6 Music News reporte

Goldfrapp have admitted they were "extremely honoured" to soundtrack a film biopic about John Lennon's childhood and adolescence.
Nowhere Boy, which is directed by conceptual artist Sam Taylor-Wood, is based on the book Imagine This: Growing Up With My Brother John Lennon by his half sister, Julia Baird.
Lead singer Alison Goldfrapp said: "It's a traditional score for a film.
"The music is very orchestral and I use my voice to help drive the story."
The film trails the late Beatle's first first steps to stardom and focuses on the influence his aunt Mimi and his mother Julia had on his early life.
It also follows his friendship with Paul McCartney.

Goldfrapp keyboardist Will Gregory has previously scored the silent film classic He Who Gets Slapped but this is the first time the pair have worked on a soundtrack together.
"The editors of the film knew our music and they just asked us to do some little things to begin to help them develop the film.
"We were extremely honoured and it was a great opportunity because it's such a hard world to get into, doing music for film.
"It was fantastic that they had faith in us and they could believe we could do it."
The film stars Nearly Famous actor Aaron Johnson and Love Actually star Thomas Brodie Sangster, who plays McCartney.
Matt Greenhalgh, who wrote the script for the Joy Division film Control, has also been drafted in for the screenwriting duties.
The movie will premiere on 29 October as part of the London Film Festival.
To hear the full interview tune in to The Music Week on 6 Music.

new song/album rumours from popjustice.com
Some words we thought it unlikely we'd ever get to type: Goldfrapp are back with a disco tune.

Main points:
» It's called 'Rocket'.
» You can dance to it.
» It's got an "oh-oh-oh" bit.
» It's basically brilliant - a charismatic and elegant modern pop tune with lyrics that are by turns wistful and dynamic.
Well this is all very nice but is there an album?
» Yes there is.
» It's called 'Head First'.
» It was recorded in Bath and London.
» It's out on March 22 next year.
» On the basis of the single the chances of the album being **** are VERY SLIM INDEED.
» Alison and Will wrote and produced the whole thing - hurrah.
whole story

another disco/dance album? that doesn't sound very exciting to me. as much as simply adore goldfrapp and know how good they are at that, with everyone in the mainstream having pretty much ripped off that sound, wouldn't they just want to go the opposite direction again? to be blunt, the prospects sound a little boring actually.

i would have much rather see them go back to a more experimental direction again. perhaps with some organic overtones?

unless,as alison hinted they did with supernature last year during the promotion of seventh tree, mute is pushing them to do this?

and btw, they just finished work on  xtina aguileria's  new album i was reading.

Wow, I'm so excited about the news :woot: but...

...I'm shocked reading this! And I thought it was too insane to be real

^i didn't think that had ever panned out....thought it was just a ridiculous rumour.

okay i was reading more about the track and i have to say, contrary to my comments,it may actually be a little interesting. the way they describe it,it may be of the same vein as black cherry.
