'Gothic' Style

not my personal style.
i think the whole gothic style looks bad when it's abused.

Personally, I adore the gothic aesthetic when it is done well and with creativity.

For me, that means combining gothic elements in new and interesting ways I haven't seen a zillion times before. For example, the other day I saw two goth girls - one dressed head to toe in yellow and her friend in baby blue. They were pastel goths! ;)

When I see someone who is one big Hot Topic blur, it might as well be Abercrombie & Fitch. Where's the creativity in a tired uniform that you can find in any shopping centre in the world?

the girls in my school...they have this thing about ladylike-meets-goth/punk it can work well if it's done the right way on the right people some can just pull off anything...I mean sometimes I'm just hanging out in the city and I see these over-exaggerated goth looks on people who probably don't know anything about it...and all I think is 'wannabes!' tho thats kinda mean..*blush* anyway...there's this thing going on here (inspired by kamilla vanilla probably who they are all crazy about) where people wear these layered tutu black (or pink) skirts with leggings or leopard-print socks and a contrasting girly pink tee with skulls on it (e.g Emily strange) and really glittery black eyeshadow on the top lids. For more daring people it's dying your hair magenta/purple those kind of colours and wearing red lipstick with a ribboned headband and a diamante black skull tee and a mini with polka-dotted tights and black accesories..it's not 'goth' in the total gothic black kind of way but yeah it actually looks nice sometimes dressing slightly 'gothic' and a little 'punky' with mixed girliness...

i think on most peopel it is a no-no
they just tend to overdo it,
needs to be a bit more subtle for it to work

"i love goth clothing. as people said its a huge different between goth and goth, people often relate goths with something negative because of the children with pink hair and rasta. i dont understand how people could se goth boring, its like the most outstanding style i know, its very unpredictable with their cuts and patterns. aint boring just because its black."

Well said. It's a style that can incorperate many things mixed in and still look good.

Wow,this wedding dress is soo beautiful.I love gothic fashion,my style is little bit gothic...mostly mixed metalhead style with gothic details.
And what I really like is this mixing old meadiavel gothic with modern things, that is now popular. It's beautiful.

^do you really wear medieval????
I'm pretty scared when I hear this.... I think there's a big misunderstanding about the image people vehiculated through centuries about what medieval and gothic were....
There's a sort of big marketing around that, especially in Fashion...
Medieval is not the period where I'm specialized... But I can tell for sure the Fashion (which was really really important in those times... even more than you've ever thought!) was not really into black.... The Fashion was pretty colourful!! and defenetely NOT black!!!! well there was a little... but Black was mainly 'trendy' in Spain during the XV or XVIth century I think....

And I even don't understand why people think it's a dark period....
The churches were open to the light.... the most possible!!!!!
But I can figure out why there's a sort of Black and Dark thing around Medieval.... ;)

So I guess you're more interested into the forms the outfits could have and the way Contemporary Gothic 'Community' interpret it now than into the real thing, non?

Because here is what they wore (taken from Les Tres Riches Heures du Duc de Berry let's say Late Gothic, XVth If i remember well...) and as you can see it's not really black nor dark!! :

No,not mediavel in that way.
I was thinking about that wedding dress,it's kinda mediavel but still having some dose og gothickness,if I can say in that way,I don't know how to explain that on english.
But becouse I'm interested in gothic subculture, there are all kind of gothic's-there are goth rock, punk goth etcs etcs and also mediavel goth...that's what i meant.

Here, these are the best that I could found.

That's not really 'medieval' goth. It looks like regular old Victoriana inspired goth to me.

i've moved some posts here that were in the neo goth thread because they fit the GOTH thread more appropriately...:flower:
