Gucci F/W 05.06 Milan

Is she “designing” or “redesigning”?

I believe she did a great job to maintain the Gucci style that recognize by everyone, but most of time Gucci Style = Tom Ford.

Maybe this is the passage she must takes on, sudden change brings no good to the company and working under the shadow of such powerful designer like Tom Ford is nerve racking. After all, Gucci is a commercial based company, it is business over creative, as long as these clothes get on red carpet in Hollywood, it sales.

Somehow I miss Tom Ford........................

i think you still need to give her credit for continuing the product and integrity of the house. look at ysl he's redesigning classic ysl. if she were to turn to the extreme it would be a huge outcry, sort of reminding me of julian mcdonald for givenchy

Its kinda Gucci revisited .. she evn used the same models Tom used a couple of seasons ago (C. Kass!) .. the line is def. Tom Ford .. but some of the textures are weird ... esp. the coat Gemma is wearing ... that texture does not seem very Gucci nor Tom Ford-ish to me

Terrible, and totally irrelevant for the season with all the new things that are happening at other houses - by next season there will be very little interest in Gucci, there is just nothing new happening it just looks so very TIRED

What does other houses have to do with Gucci? She shouldn't be churning out what everyone else is doing and following the trends...And I don't think Gucci will be fading away anytime soon. The new collection may not be to some people's likings, but I hardly see this collection being the end of Gucci...

Thanx for posting!

I can't help but feel like it's trying sooo hard to be GUCCI but there's still something intrinsic to the label that's missing.

Yeah, Tom used to use Carmen a lot. she has opened and closed many shows for him...

The only thing Tom Ford-ish I see are the fabrics and some of the coats. The rest is a bunch of *crap*. It's about time for Gucci to hire a new designer.

Actually, it wouldn't be a bad idea to bring back Tom Ford..... But I guess Tom Ford would loose credibility (as though he had any to start off with, but hey, that's another story :innocent: ) for saying adios to Gucci and coming back after a one year absence.

i like the dresses on hana, daria and mariacarla... i really really really dislike that furry curly thingie...

i'm a great fan of alessandra fachinetti but from what i see, i liked the p/e collection better- the gucci feel was there but with an alessandra's touch. here, it's more blurry and not really that cohesive. although she presented a very strong silhouette which i like a lot. there are some very accurate pieces also, that will surely become good sellers.
it's really hard for a young and not the most experienced designer to replace somebody like tom ford and reveal a flawless, original collection. i guess she just needs some time to develop her own style and combine it with what defines gucci. she really is on her best way to steal our hearts as tom did (and remember that he didn't came up with absolutely gorgeous garment from the early begining at both gucci & ysl!!).

Ok!

Older Collections re-worked.

I`m totally fine with that! That way Allessandra learns best to understand & copy Tom`s work (which MUST be continued!).

I like that white dress on Natasha Poly and Gemma's black floor-length gown.

But there's something wrong with the boots, or the skirts that are worn with them. The ensemble messes up one's proportions and even the mods don't look that great on the runway.

Anyone interested in seeing the rest of the collection can see it at Gucci.com

I'm totally torn with this collection because the things I like, I really like and the things I don't like I really don't like......don't really know what she was trying to say with it, there was no apparent thread through the collection. I will say this though, the colors were beautiful, all shades of slate, black, ink, teal, indigo.....wonderful palette.

It's very clear to me that Alessandra was the brains behind design at Gucci while working under Tom Ford. Her two solo collections show her strength at designing great clothes that fit nicely in the world of Gucci. What the house now lacks is an editor or stylist, who can look at a collection and instantly take it from zero to hero. Someone to choose the hip runway music, develop the flawless makeup, cast the best models, choose just the right heel height or skirt length, style the accessories just so, and so on. That's where Tom's vision was peerless. And you can say what you will about the man, but he knew how to make a bunch of clothes seamlessly fit together. He had such a knack for developing an image and that's what Gucci needs right now.

I agree with you MOM. This collection felt really stuck between Alessandra trying to replicate Toms image and trying to forge ahead. There were some truely beautiful pieces and details and some complete looks that were great as well but as a collection it felt very undecided. The only thing that really stood out as new rather then knock off was the poof sleeves. Other then that it just seems like she's still unsure of what she wants to do with her collection.

I think she's got potential and she's made some beautiful things in her time as creative director but she needs to decide whether she wants to keep trying imitate the image Tom created, which of course will only garner criticism, or move Gucci forward. As some people have already said it's a nice collection, but it's nothing new.

The proportions are bothersome: a faux romanticism tingling with hard edges with a few Marc Jacobs' references of Romeo Gigli's point d'esprit thrown in for good measure. It's exciting to watch her struggle to make her own mark on a house dominated by such a male oversexed point of view. Is she asking the right questions of herself? Is she moving fast enough for us? Fast enough for fashion? Only time will tell. The accesories are beautiful in the dark with one spotlight making the hardware glint seductively. I think they will look just fuddy duddy in daylight.

I meant irrelevent in the season, other houses are pulling back and showing 'new' ideas - Did anyone notice that Missoni is the main picture on style.com (over Gucci), I think that is a sign that interest in the runway collection is already waning . . .
