James Franco’s made-to-measure turn for Gucci

Now you too can look like James Franco. How? It's simple! Simply become one of the first customers to try out Gucci's brand new men's made-to-measure service.

These campaign images of the crinkly-eyed, lopsided-smiled California James Dean-alike are released by the Florentine luxury giant today to mark the inaugaration of its excellent-sounding new sartorial service. Called "All The World's a Stage" it was shot by Nathaniel Goldberg at the huge Roman film studio Cinecittà, and gives the smoothie-chops Spiderman star plenty of opportunity to squint against an evocatively smokey film-themed backdrop.

Gucci is a long-standing Franco fan: it first cast him in a fragrance campaign in 2008 which, he noted at the time, was ironic because was once caught shoplifting cologne. As well as that heady whiff of danger, Franco also comes with some pretty solid cinematic pedigree - and he hosted last year's Academy Awards dressed head to toe in Gucci made-to-measure.

Frida Giannini, Gucci's creative director, said: "James has an innate ability to fuse classic elegance with contemporary style and interpret formal wear in an individual way."

So how much will it cost to ape Franco's interpretative skills? According to Gucci, made-to-measure suits will start at £1,900 when the service becomes available in 11 boutiques worldwide by the end of the year. Customers will be able to choose from 178 possible combinations of colours and fabrics, with little extras - like a satin lining or (hmm...) diamante embroidery - on offer too.

For a made-to-measure service from a house such as Gucci, this price isn't actually nearly as eye-watering as it might of been. And just think, after you've made your choices endured the six or so weeks wait it will take Gucci painstakingly to craft your personalised suit you can slip it on - and suddenly look like James Franco. From the neck down.

i used to like him, but i don't buy him as a potential Gucci customer, even less for their Made to Measure line.

Another actor that's a good actor, but not a good model.

I just can't get enough of him.

I think I need to change the title, right? This isn't for a fragrance... it's made to measure suits, no?

Ok so now we know with this small video. It's not really made-to-measure !

I'm soo disappointed ! ! !

Half of the pictures look more like backstage candids which I get was the purpose but here it's not working at all. A forgettable campaign for me.

He is the worst ambassador for Gucci. As a customer, I feel very put off by his image / aesthetic. Actually, a lot of the Gucci ambassadors that are celebrities are off-putting (apart from Charlotte Casiraghi).

The ready-to-wear mainline campaigns are so much more alluring to me!
