Gucci 'The Art of Silk' 2025 : Julia Garner by Steven Meisel

Is this a promotion for the New Silk Road documentary? Otherwise, it is very random for Gucci to revive its silk heritage.

I don’t mind this at all, but one of Gucci’s many problems as of late was that they didn’t have any sort of coherent campaign imagery - this coming after years of success with AM who really excels in that area. There was nothing distinctive and no throughline from the minute AM left through now. What will Demna’s Gucci look like, will it have any consistency with this campaign image? Is Meisel a new direction that’ll be maintained with Demna? Or is this a one-off? Time for some world-building.

Not bad at all and this is considering all the horrors we’ve seen during ancoras tenure in terms of campaigns
I actually quite like it

Lovely, but entirely forgettable. I'm surprised to see him at Gucci for the first time and while I really don't expect this collaboration to continue, I'd be interested in seeing more of Gucci through his lens. Perhaps he could've been the saving grace of Sabato's tenure from the start. Ah, well...

It won’t be easy for Demna in Gucci. In Balenciaga he had full control, in Gucci, which is an heritage house, he needs to respect code of the house so he won’t have his freedom. That’s why I think we can expect kind’ve great stuff from him. He will need to actually work!!!( and not print Kim K. face on t-shirts)

I don't know why Italian brands are so obessed with her. She used to be very close to Prada and now for the FW25 show, she was sitting close (or next to? I don't remember) to Mr Pinault. Does she has a connection to the fashion crowd like Sofia Coppola?

Something a little Meisel for Anna Sui about this, or even some of his work for those high end Japanese retailers/department stores he did back in the later 2000s…

Blown up larger, I think it’ll look beautiful in a way. If only she wasn’t smizing and had more warmth to her face. Something about the scarf used calls for something more joyful to use the colours better, and with better motion. Might be asking for too much though.

Looks more like Craig McDean to me. I'm glad it's not a studio shot, though.
