Antonio Berardi On Gwyneth Paltrow In THAT Dress: 'She Makes Things Look Iconic!'

Coming off the back of being rated the Most Beautiful Woman in the World by People magazine, Gwyneth Paltrow stepped out last night for the Iron Man 3 premiere in Hollywood last night, in a dress which proved exactly why she deserved her accolade. With sheer panels down both sides of the ankle grazing gown, Gwynnie drew blushes as it was immediately apparent she was going full-on commando.

So which designer was responsible for the partially see-thru red carpet winner? The answer is our very own Antonio Berardi, the British designer whose Sicilian background has inspired him to make frocks with a heavy dose of feminine va va voom.

So how did Berardi feel about Gwyneth working his dress on the red carpet? The designer tells us exclusively, 'Gwyneth manages to bridge the gap of glamour and modernity. She makes things look iconic!' Where did Mr Berardi get his inspiration from? 'The dress she is wearing is from my AW13 collection,' he tells us, 'and the architect Oscar Niemeyer is the inspiration – allowing me to create pieces that celebrate dramatic silhouettes, whilst in-keeping with my love for hourglass aesthetic.'

And what of the racy sheer panels? 'I adore the side panels in this dress – they make everything a suggestion; just a flash of a curve, and a hint of leg movement, embodying a sensuality without any vulgarity,' he explains.

Antonio Berardi has become quite the red carpet favourite with fans including Frieda Pinto, Sarah Jessica Parker and Nicole Richie. So does he design with the red carpet in mind? 'My dresses are not, on the whole, created with the red carpet in mind, although they do lend themselves perfectly! I really look to create pieces with a point of view, which embody my signature style whilst expressing modernity. I want my dresses to push boundaries, and I think that’s why they work for event dressing – they are not just another red carpet gown, there is always a twist and a hint of something more.'

"They make everything a suggestion, just a flash of curve, a hint of leg..."

a hint? a suggestion? She couldn't even get off the IM 3 press stage gracefully due to how large the "flash" would have been (and it took THREE people to help her off stage). (Someone giffed it on tumblr, and RDJ actually mocked/mimicked how she got off the stage as he was getting down after her: that's how completely awkward she was.) And if that's a "hint," I can only imagine what the designer thinks an actual reveal of leg is.

I really do like the dress, but the skirt should have been less sheer, more coverage.

I wish she would have worn the Ralph Lauren gown to the premiere instead.

^ Is this what you are talking about -

It looks like only Robert helped her and you have to admit that is a huge step down.

I agree with you about the skirt part (less sheer, more coverage). She would have looked just as amazing in the original shorter skirt.

All this "procedure" and entourage just to take a step shows how silly the dress is. One thing is a cheeky detail, another is obsessing in making you wardrobe a topic of conversation. Just silly and tacky. This is Denise Richards material....

RDJ mocking her is indeed hilarious..and the way he throws his head ;) it is definitely a tongue in cheek thing what vanity is all about! wearing something you can't walk with or take steps with or even if it was a hugs step down...I recall her being rather tall so it's just the outfit imposing her to get down...sometimes it would advisable for some people to get off their high horse :D

She's making a fashion statement, of course it's going to be vain. It's been widely publisized and we're here discussing it so I guess it worked.

I quite like the premiere dress. :ninja:

It was a hint of skin, it is not like she pulled a Rose McGowan and had her entire butt hanging out.

And even if she did I'll take that over the dead boring stuff the vast majority of celebrities have been wearing lately.

You have to give her credit for being self-deprecating on Ellen: it's great that she can laugh at it all and appreciate it at the same time.

I saw all the criticism about her too these days, people say she's too full of herself and is so cut from reality with all her extreme diets and stuff. Whatever, I mean, she can do what she wants with her life.
I don't get the hate around the dress though, I thought it was nice and sexy without being tacky. If I had her body I'd show it too haha

The dress was frankly revolting. I did not even noticed the bare skin because the awfulness took all my attention.

But i have to say, she looked absolutely stunning on the Graham Norton show, that black jumpsuit (?) was perfection. Best dressed celebrity I've seen on TV in ages.

That list of the most beautiful women must clearly a massive joke, Paltrow is pretty and super fit, but Pink? Kelly Rowland?. The most beautiful in the world?!

I don't understand the hate of the press. When I see her on interviews I see a completely different women than the media describes. Even seeing her in the Ellen show talking about the 'dress' makes me think she is only wearing what was chose for her to wear and move on. She has tons of press to do.

To be honest, that kind of dress can't be wear by many women. Only tall and slim women would look ok on it. Im not fan of the dress. But I give credit to the fact that at least I didn't see it on someone like... Kim Kardashian :ninja:

Now let's talk about the most horrible jeans ever!! :p
