Has anyone tried "sugaring" to replace a brazilian wax? Please give me any info- I have sensitive skin and I want to know if this is really less irritating than a traditional brazilian wax, which causes red bumps for me.

"Sugaring offers numerous unique and diverse benefits. With sugaring, you remove hair in the natural direction of hair growth. This causes less irritation, pain and breakage, which leads to fewer ingrown hairs. Hair growth as short as 1/16 of an inch can be removed, eliminating the need to wait for regrowth between treatments." - http://studioalexandria.wordpress.com/body-sugaring/

Here is one place they do it and more info: http://www.studioalexandriala.com/faq.html

i can't really comment for sensitivity purposes. i have sensitive skin on my face, but everywhere else i think i am relatively normal. but this is my experience in terms of pain:

i alternate between shaving and waxing, and my hair goes very fine after a few waxing sessions but when shaving it is more coarse. one time i had my waxer try sugaring. at this time i had been shaving and she said its not really worth it. on coarser hair it takes longer to do as it can not grip the hairs enough. she did one strip anyway and tbh, i noticed little difference in the pain level. i figured i'd much rather have a brazilian over with in 10 minutes, than sugaring for 20 mins.

I switched to sugaring after the salon I go to recommended that I try it instead of waxing when I get a Brazillian.

I've never had problems with waxing but I do find sugaring is a tiny bit less painful. My aesthetician (or what ever they're called!) did say that your hair needs to be reasonably fine for sugaring though and for me it takes no longer than waxing, less time actually because they don't need to re-go over areas like as much as they sometimes have to do with waxing.

There's not a huge difference in my opinion but I'll keep having sugaring treatments rather than waxing.

I wouldn't go to any salon that recommends waxing or sugaring for children though like the place in the link. I was kind of horrified. Just saying...

^ i think the difference in our responses re: time (ie. waxing quicker for me, sugaring for you.. though granted i have never had a full sugaring treatment. just based it on the one strip which didn't remove all hairs like waxing does for me) just shows how it really will be different for every person.

i would personally call your regular salon and seek their opinion about the products used etc. i would personally think that if you are getting bumps, you will still get them with sugaring, perhaps just milder? again, the professionals will know best!

franki, thanks I think I will call my salon and ask them about it. and also thanks for your input hautechild. I don't mind if it takes extra time (although I wouldnt imagine since I have fine hair) and I also really don't mind about the pain level- I wouldnt care if the waxing hurt twice as much as long as I didnt get the pesky red bumps!

I tried a few weeks ago to make my own sugar wax, but I just couldn't get the consistency right. I'll try again eventually.

have you tried using Tendskin after hair removal? always prevents bumps for me...

I've tried sugaring and waxing. I prefer sugaring because it's less painful. Shobha is a great place to go for sugar waxing if you live in the New York City area. If not, you can purchase their products online.

I heard sugaring is way better and less painful for all areas of the body, but i havent tried it because I got laser treatment.
