I know particular hair styles can flatter one facial shape and make another look hideous, but what about body types? I've recently been told by someone who used to own a beauty salon that long hair on short people with broad shoulders makes them look 'fat'... On the one hand, she owned a beauty salon and I have no idea if body type affects how a hair style looks on someone i.e. she's the expert. On the other hand, this particular person has a heavy preference for short hair on all women and seems to be obsessed with exaggerating my weight so maybe it was just another childish stab at my self-esteem.

What do you think? Is it all bollocks, or is there some truth to certain hair styles flattering one body type more than another?

When I was younger I had really long hair..like under my bum and I'm 5'2 but it made me look like I was doll sized
I've heard that side bangs makes a round face appear thinner tho...Not really sure how it all works to be honest

Interesting topic! I've thought a lot about this in the past, too.

Not sure about body types though. An old friend of mine who is about 5'7 and very curvy always insisted that her very long hair 'disguised' her figure somewhat. She thought that she was heavy set, but she wasn't at all. So i was under the impression that long hair had a slimming effect, but these days I'm just not sure.

I personally love short hair on women, and longer hair on men - oddly enough.

Just a couple of things that I have noticed (all in my own opinion, of course):
Pixie cuts do seem to suit really petite girls, for some reason.
Fringes seem to add a touch of weight to the face, and are very youthful. And i agree about the side bangs, they really do sharpen the face!
As a natural soft curly who dries her hair straight, I notice that the curls soften my features, whereas straighter hair hardens them.

It seems to depend largely upon the individual also - I'm not so sure that hair length alone has much of an effect upon body types exactly. I always associate very long straight hair with a center parting with tallness and slimness, but this is probably due to watching too many episodes of The Young Ones as a child (Neil!!) ;)

My mother also tells me that i appear 'healthier', and less ''gaunt' with my full fringe. And she means in general, not just my poor face!
