Haute Couture Clients

I was curious and I went on IG and clearly we both share the same obsession with Chanel jackets! We got two RTW jackets in common so major love for him…

‘That being said, he looked better in his Chanel RTW than Couture. Kudos to him for going for it but I think that Karl’s Chanel jackets or coats works better on a man when it’s normal shape/cut.
Karl liked to play with shoulders and sleeves and even on a very slim man, it’s not very flattering.
But I’m very surprised that he went for very strong silhouettes.

This is like the 3rd version of the FW2011 look (the first look he turned into a jacket). Marie Louise de Clermont Tonnerre had it turned into a a dress with 3/4 sleeves and now a jacket…

I don't know, since Chanel never really fledged-out a menswear identity per se, adapting the design of those jackets 1:1 to fit a male client still feels a bit like a man wearing a woman's jacket - Especially when it's one made in pale lilac-colored tweed.

There are designers and brands with a point of view more suitable for genderless design, like when Kanye West wore a printed Celine silk shirt by Phoebe Philo, but there's something about the fabrics and the hand of making in Chanel that just feels very 'madame', no matter who wears it.

I can see that point, though I don't know if 'madame' is a bad look. It feels a bit subversive in a larger context of his more traditional masculine fits.
I actually think they look kind of incredible, definitely better than what I expected them to translate to.

Some clients' life stories are more interesting than their choices of outfits for sure, which reminds me of the Russian fashion mafia back in those days of the early 2010s.

Not to mention the very questionable sources of wealth of some of these ladies (or that of their husbands/families). Most of it is in very bad taste but I guess the couture houses couldn't care less as long as they maintain a clientele at all

Karl Lagerfeld said it best: They don't want people to know where the money comes from
